Norm is correct!

You can't count on a snap cut breaking off evenly and if it does break unevenly it can capture the chainsaw bar and chain and yank the saw from the operators hands. It only catches the saw a small percentage of the time but when it does it is memorable.

It puts the saw on the side of the snap cut where it can not be caught.

Do the reverse and you will sooner or later have a piece hang on your saw chain and bend it. I've bent plenty but know how to avoid it now.
