"Another quality job.....!"

\"Another quality job.....!\"

Encountered this victim Silver Maple today, and I could not believe the brutality they inflicted on this poor tree. Another top-notch top job, lion-tailed, etc, etc...and furthermore, they left a business sign.

As if they are proud of their job

Re: \"Another quality job.....!\"

upon further investigation the tree looked like it was topped in the past, most of the remaining leaders looked to have massive sunscald along the top of them, also on a lot of the cuts you could see the discolored decay column possibly from the old topping wounds. I wish I could talk to the homeowner to probe the history of the tree.

Re: \"Another quality job.....!\"

So it was another quality job after all?
I probably would have advised removal and planting something new. Than it would probably qualify more for "another quality job".

There is always the danger of being sidewalk engineers when we come across work like this. Without knowing the before story it might not be fair to tell the after story.

It does look suspicious though...

So...knock on the door and ask.

Sunscald is a hugely underappreciated problem--good eye spotting that. I've reduced trees that hard before, for a variety of reasons. But stripping lower and interior growth at the same or any ntime is a berry bad idea, I agree.

Did they do anything for the roots? I know that sounds like a rhetorical question, but it might have put a little quality into that job.

I'm with Tom on the judging though. my house has a lot of glass.

Re: \"Another quality job.....!\"

Question about the roots, the tree is situated on the corner of the garage. A concrete driveway surrounds one side of the root flare, and the other side, I did notice what appeared to be a drain tile that ran between the two homes, a french drain I believe, close to the root zone. A precarious spot for a multistemmed Silver Maple IMO.

Tom D. you are right about becoming "Sidewalk-Engineers" I read alot on TreeBuzz and I don't post often, however, when I do, it is always about something that bothers me, and it seems I can share it with TB and receive objective, or subjective feedback. It does seem we can be a bit too critical...yet I enjoy the dialogue.

Re: \"Another quality job.....!\"

Maybe they are pruning for those vines that are growing up the trunk? Other wise I agree I am not going to judge...at least they are proper cuts. If it was topped I don't think it would look like that.
