Another Big K-boom for sale. 150 metric ton!

Basically looking at the 2 charts the Terex boom truck gives you more height and more capacity out to about 55' load radius. Once you get past 55' LR the boom truck starts to lose ground and the Knuckle boom takes over. The question is how much is that extra capacity at 55'-95' worth to you in $.

My 9103 has the remote setup...nice for blind pics if you're working with lest experienced people. I haven't done the climb and operate though...that would slow us down a lot but I have run the crane and chipper by myself once. I much prefer to be on the truck though much like your bro x.

About stick crane remotes.

I was just told this, so maybe that's why it's not very nice to use:

" David,

FYI,

The remark about stick booms having remote control is true however they are black and white (off & on) single function with a proportional trigger.

It is a very poor design.. it meters the flow of oil going though the entire control valve making it a munch cheaper remote.

Where as a K boom meters the movement to each spool/function allowing it to operate several functions at the same time."

No problem. I'm glad you understand that I'm not trying to talk down k-booms, just putting my perspective out there. And granted my perspective is slighted toward stick cranes since that what I use in my business. But as you said it is interesting to compare the charts, you can see where the K-boom excels.

By the way,
IF I had a LARGE profitable tree service, with annual gross in over a million, I'd choose a BIG stick boom crane, first choice likely a Grove GMK3055 with 141 ft tip height (or so, I think).

Another choice might be the new Terex Challenger 3180 with 164 foot! But that Terex doesn't have the excellent independent suspension with constant ground pressure like the Grove.

A Grove 3055 would be amazing, go anywhere, tight turning, delicate on driveways.

IF I had a small tree service with like 3 employees (like we do), I'd have pretty much what I have now. I could have gone slightly larger ton crane with a fly-jib and still been able to haul my log weights okay.

That's because you were at a shorter radius. I think what Mark was talking about was when the boom is so vertical that it could be upward loaded?? Upward load on a boom is BY FAR THE WEAKEST for example if you had the boom vertical with the jib over center. I would never trade my custom 1750 for any crane.......kboom A/T or otherwise
