amsteel II crane spider legs.

This is interested that I started this thread a year ago, then it just got brought back to life.

BTW, those amsteel II slings are wearing GREAT! Way different than the blues did.

The lock sticking done with throwline looks like a good idea. Two done with throw line, two done with waxed whipping line. the waxed line is wearing.

I should find a picture of them in use.

picture from August or September.
A bit more wrapping than usual here, sometimes do that just to use up some length fairly fast.

that pick was big by the way, as most were on that tree. likely 4,500 lb pick in that picture if I remember correctly. Tulip tree.

I haven't been on the Buzz for a long time. I'm glad I came over to see what's going on these days.

I didn't realize Samson made a Amsteel II. Thanks for the post David.

This will change things for my crane work. I quit the Amsteel Blue about 3 years ago. The new AMSII will now be a new asset for us.

JAMIN !

I was just saying to Matt last week, "remember that guy Jamin Mayer, he was always posting on the buzz, wonder what happened to him".

Welcome back.

I kinda feel veterans need to come back to the buzz and start posting again, seems like a new crowd lately and it's more inexperienced guys lately.

Although some are coming along nicely.

I'm trying to put more on the buzz again and sure hope to show some vids soon.

Thanks David. I've been doing well. I'll be checking out the Buzz now and then.

It's awesome to see your ideas coming to fruition. I'm stoked on your ring slings especially!

I am thinking about buying some Amstel II for crane work .
X-man: you recommend 30 feet length (10meter)?
And do you insert a spreader (think that's the right word) in the splice before attaching it to the crane hook?

....and if the slings are too long for a certain pick, can you tie it off doubled to avoid threading a lot if rope through or doing a lot if half hitches?
Hope I can borrow some of your experience with Amsteel slings :-)
Normally using chains and they are not perfect when you need to balance side heavy picks.

chains got to be murder to work with for tree work.

They are ok normally I think, but absolutely horrible for the large logs and for multi attachment on side heavy short picks.

I dunno, if I was going to use chains I think I'd want something beefier. Rated at 4500lbs, most of our picks are getting a little to close for comfort for that. I like the idea though, just wondering why they aren't rated higher?

That is with 5/16 chain. 3/8 is over 8000#.

Like I said I haven't used it yet but when I do I'll let you know what I think..
