Does anyone know if they make what is originally a fixed eye brass snap, but made of aluminum???

Never seen one, myself... I have lots of them in stainless steel and a couple of the brass ones... but have never seen them in aluminum.

I'm guessing that aluminum is not strong enough for a snap of that configuration and size. I've seen small aluminum biners/snaps, but they have locking mechanisms.

How thick are the aluminum strips? My first thoughts would be to extend them and have a suitable hole that the tether could just connect with the biner. They do make a brazing rod that will join dissimilar metals, but I'm not sure of the strength.

1/8 inch...I have a good friend who knows the way of metals....I'll get it done eventually with the brass snap. Should turn out pretty nice when all is said and done.

Treestuff should make a washer/pin connection for their double tether. That would be outstanding to be able to add or remove the wrench easily.
Yoyo had a solution that I have been using - a round wire lock pin with Oceans tether. I don't even use washers. The wire holds both eyes on and I have never had trouble with it coming off.... And if it did, it wouldn't be the end of the world. The only thing is it's a bit bulky and doesn't interface as smoothly with the hitch cord. But it is a cheap fix.

But Mike, What about taking the aluminum all the way down to the becket and forking it. Put a slick pin hole in each and voila! I don't know, maybe there is something that would hinder that as a workable option. I just had that thought while reflecting on the Oceans tether and slick pin combination I've seen some using.

I see what your saying. I tried both the wire/pin combo and the twisted clevis that moss was using. I don't know, the brass snap just popped out at me one day. Slic Pins are sweet, yet can be a pain with gloves, and there is the drop factor (unless you make a partial countersink like on the wrench). The snap is super easy on/off. It ua utilizes a hole perfect for tending. An all in one unit by ISC sounds ideal. I feel like for a company like that, it would be relatively easy. But when I get a chance I'll be doing some brazing and I will post a picture afterwards. I'm still riding the Bone pretty consistently though : )

Gotcha, yeah the snap does seem more simple and easy to use. Although if you are removing the wrench from the line you have to deal with the gloves and slic pin predicament anyhow with the wrench pin. I think if they were to make a combo I would anticipate it having two slic pins probably both with the countersink...like you had said. I like the look of your set up...is it at all difficult to twist the snap onto the becket with the rigid tether? You know what I'm saying? Oooh, maybe a Kong Frog would be sweet or something! http://u-log.upndownoutdoors.com/kong-frog-quickdraws/2011/08/

I don't know how it would interface with the hitch climber, but I like the straight attachment rather than hooking it. What do you think? The snap is easy enough isn't it, but how cool is that Frog...right?
