Aluminum rigging rings

Wesspur carries those rings. I don't recommend them, though. They are very soft aluminum and will show scratches and abrasion very quickly. Just rubbing together in a friction saver setup causes the rings to leave abrasion marks on each other from just one climb.

leon, are you talking about the ones you setup on that AFC I tried?? maybe wesspur carries the same rings but metal??

Hey, Jon, yes I'm talking about the same rings. It turns out that finding steel friction saver rings in this country is much easier said than done. None of the major arborist supply houses carry them (Wesspur, Sherrill, Bishop, etc.). Fortunately, I have a lead on some that are being imported from Britain right now.

My super secret scientific sources tell me that you may see those rings this week Leon. I will paint a black "X" on SirTreeRats avatar when I have further information.

You guys are crazy!

You have the rings now, Rich? How are they?

I was thinking about the hard-anodized ring on my ART rope guide. That thing is like 3 years old, constantly is getting yanked out of trees and falling on the ground (sometimes sidewalk) and still practically looks new.

Where do we get some of those?!

Nick, are you referring to the Aluminum rings or the Steel ones? I have never had an issue with the Aluminum rings that we get from U.S. Rigging. The two one my Glide have been there for quite some time and during routine inspection I have never seen any problems. As for friction savers and weapons I am sure they would be fine, but I personally would avoid bombing them out onto concrete just because I am like that. Of coarse the homeowner might not like climbers bombing out their steel ring friction saver and having it rocket off their roof or windows either... As for those ART rings, I will look into getting some of those.

The biggest issue I have had with the Steel rings is finding some of the right size that are forged, not welded and also affordable. Took some time, but eventually I found them.
