Altec vs Terex

It’s time for some new bucket trucks. Love my old aerial lifts but as you know they are soon to be a thing of the past. In the market for a rear mount elevator unit and a forestry package truck. Please let me know your opinions such as joy stick lay out, maneuverability, quality, etc on the new altec and terex buckets. Thanks

We got 3 new rear mount 72 ft elevator altec international trucks 2 years ago. They all have the pistol grip with good logical functionality. Oddly though they each move slightly different from each other. The big downside to them is how much they weigh, but height comes with weight no matter what.

We had a demo altec rear mount elevator for just under a month. Great bucket truck. We did so much with with it. We are going with a terex however because of the setup of the tool boxes and designated plywood rack. Not that altec can't do that they are just less flexible with custom orders.
Terex runs their elevator parallel with the rear axel. Which opens up so much more deck space. They have a similar pistol grip control.
I got a color matched (to our company colors) 2019 freightliner rear mount elevator to be completed 4/27/18. (Signed on the dotted line late March 2018). This is from Utility One Source Forestry now Truck One Source (I think) out of Lynchburg Virginia. I worked with John Dean. He is so easy to work with. It's been a great experience.
Altec was $15k more expensive for a color matched truck and said Oct 2018 for completion. We couldn't wait that long.

I'll update you all when we get it. I can't wait.

Yea i tried out an altec rear mount elevator unit but only for like 30min this past Arbor Day on Long Island. Altec brought it down for people to demo. It was very fast and smooth just didn’t like how stiff the joy stick was it hurt my shoulder after a short time... maybe takes getting used to i don’t know. Bet having the boom on opposite side and controls not in front of me anymore will take some getting used to thanks for the input was wondering what guys thought with some hours flying these things would think

Terex booms are obnoxiously slow in comparison to the ALC booms. I like the Altecs for their round upper booms, it makes a difference sneaking through branches. The Altecs do take up a lot of the back of the truck and even hang over the back a bit. For ply wood storage you could have a heavy duty receiver hitch extender built with a platform (like you see on the jeeps with coolers strapped down) it would stow your ply wood and help keep your chipper away from bucket.
