The 5 minute behind the scene story of filming the 60 Minutes piece is also excellent. I'd give my left nut to be on that wall with my camera (s)!
In the link above, there's a brief clip of the late great John Bachar, who survived for decades of free soloing...till two years ago. No one witnessed his tragic fall.

Great article Roger (couldn't get the vid tho and would like to see it). Interesting when his friend and mentor in the 60 Min piece was asked what surprised him about Alex he responded that "he is still alive".
The comments on Roger's article are very compelling as well. I used to ride my sports bike at high speeds without a helmet as mentioned in one comment, climb trees and work without a helmet(or rope at times in early years), play high level racquetball without glasses (got blasted in one eye and now my sight is compromised). I now do things much safer as I hope Alex, the young genius climber can one day before the inevitable loss of life occurs. One miniscule error or happenstance and he is dead.
Interesting to note the maturity in the young man's voice indicating the life he has chosen to live weighs heavilly on his mind. Calmness he posesses is incredible.
Amazing talent there. Nice views. I'm with you, Rog, on the camera guy envy. Where did Alex pack his lunch? I think food would be a necessity after an hour an half of that.
awesome i love his attitude. I would like to see more tree guys like him rather then the "extreme" heavy metal type. I always thought tree work was more meditative.
What strikes me most is his humble spirit lack of ego and his good nature all around, gave me goose bumps. That man is the real deal. Positive vibrations dude. Bob Marleyesque.
