Neem is a homeowner chemical
Oak wilt protection from neem oil mixed with bar oil? Neem is garbage for commercial use. Has little persistence, quickly decays in sunlight, and usually requires multiple applications to be effective at all. Also neem formulations vary wildly so any data you may have produced must be viewed with caution. And, what of hand saw cuts. Just treat oaks like bearing fruit trees and prune in winter, problem solved.
Just because homeowners have access to it, I'm not sure how that precludes it being effective, useful or a good idea. And once a professional finds an application for it doesn't that then make it a professional chemical? I just mean, it is what it is right? The formulation I was referencing was 1 cc per liter of bar oil, which was claimed to be effective in, at least partially, reducing chance of infection on a cut. If Neem is as cheap as I think it is, and 1 cc is as small as I think it is, and the findings presented here by a couple people have even any truth to them and Neem is effective even to a small extent, as a conscientious arborist who seeks to do the best for my clients and stay on the cutting edge, so to speak, of industry knowledge while being as good a custodian of the environment as possible, (as I believe it is my duty as a christian), then I will keep Neem in my bar oil from this day forward.
I was seeking clarity because the science goes over my head and I was hoping to get an idea of the collective beliefs of effectiveness of this application, based on experience, and referenceable studies.
When you say a homeowner chemical is garbage for professional use I don't understand how a chemical would act differently depending on the experience level of the applicator. When you say Neem has little persistence I hear you saying that Neem has
some pesistence. When you say Neem usually requires multiple applications I hear you saying Neem
sometimes is effective with a single application. When you say Neem formulations vary widely, it seems like you are implying that there are some formulations which would be
more effective. I really am not trying to be contrarian I just am trying to suss out the truth. Cheers!
