When I'm in trees like that I clear my FC in stages on the descent. Making sure that I'm not too far below a level that I would reclimb makes it unlikely that I have to go fish out a snagged one.

Can you post pics of your hitch setup? Sometimes a diagnosis can be done even online.

I like the clearing-in-stages idea. I'm not computer savvy enough to post pics. I've tried HRC long, short, minus wraps, plus wraps. Tenex long, short, minus, plus. Beeline. Distel, Schwabish, 3-wrap prussiks. Modified this, modified that. Three different climbing lines... velocity, blaze, arbormaster 16 strand... all with variations on hitches. Anyway, I've spliced up a choking FC that allows me to run my climbing line through two rings in lieu of a pulley.
