Adirondack White Pine Removal

Here's video of a job we finished yesterday. First test drive of the Stihl MS150. We used both speed line versions for getting this double headed monster down. I do like the 150, especially the lightness. I'm getting to old to be schlepping the bigger saws around in the tree. I bid the job a day per head, but we got rained off on the second day. The eartech communication radios make a big difference for the better, hope they hold up to this environment.

Good question Reg. I would have given a little more thought to the estimate before saying looks like two days, here's my price +/- 10%. The job did take two days, but we were rained off on the second day so had to come back, there was not room for that in the estimate. Having room in the budget for things out of your control gives the job a more relaxed feel. Would have been wise to cover the pond as we clogged that up pretty well with sawdust. I made a few cuts with weird body position that I noticed while editing the video. Couple of things that seem fine when doing them, but when you watch the video you think; that does not look safe. Maybe related to the feather weight MS150. Good learning tool video. I would have changed the words in the canned trailer to match the job. Should of pinned down where the trunk wood was going to go before we started. We had to jump on the job because we had the weather we needed (calm winds). What do you see? I post these things get constructive criticism.

Rainy Day yesterday so I fussed around with video. Here's another one if you have not had enough already:

you can see the tree from the first video in the background at around 4 minutes in this video. The two trees grew about 100 yards from each other. Good genetics for co-dominate stems? Environmental?

Too complex for me Mark.

But hey, you've got some real nice stuff, and you're making money.

Good job!

Personally I think you should spend more time filming the view then the work. Thanks again, Bob.

[/ QUOTE ] what do I see ? Well, you probably saved the ground workers lots of work, but created a lot for yourself with the complex rigging. Labor-saving doesn't always mean timee-saving. Sometimes if you can land stuff in a closer spot to the tree, but that quicker and less gear intensive, on the whole it can work out better. If the groundworkers are frequently waiting on you for long periods of time with not much to do, then maybe that's a good indicator that thers's probably a better way.

Not a bad place to spend some time, eh?

I think I got a glimpse of Sawtooth back there but I know that valley from climbing Noonmark. Great place to hike in the fall when the sugar maples are red.
