Western Edge Tree Service in Hood River Oregon is looking for additional personnel. At least one more climber would be ideal.
Hood River is a really nice place to live. It is nestled in the Columbia River gorge national scenic area about 60 miles east of Portland. The weather is relatively mild though there are usually a few hot days in the summer and winters usually have a bit of snow. Recreational opportunities abound in this area. Downhill, cross country, and alpine skiing, mountain and road biking, motocross, whitewater kayaking, windsurfing, kiteboarding, and hiking are all popular pursuits in this area. The owner of the company is into a few of these activities so if it is mid week and a powder day on the mountain, work likely will not be required.
A lot of the projects with this company are removal projects. Ponderosa pine trees and Douglas fir are the predominate conifer species here with occasional grand firs thrown in to ruin your lanyard. Other native species are big leaf maple (acer macrophylum), white oak (quercus garryana), and cottonwood trees. Because of the mild climate and soil conditions there are a lot of other cultivars from around the country are here. Some large elms are in town and you will see decent sized non native oaks, as well as the occasional beech tree.
The company owner is Scott. He is into motocross racing, snowboarding, and backcountry skiing. His background includes working in the movie industry doing rigging for ziplines for camera systems so he has some unique tools and techniques that are helpful in the right situations. He also is an excellent fabricator so he is often making improvements around the shop or is quick to make repairs on equipment. As an employer he is easy to work for. Most days are 8-4 with an occasional long day thrown in here and there.
The equipment is nice. Mini skid, nice chip truck, chipper with winch, 60 foot rear mount bucket, and a good selection of rigging gear. The crew is currently small but they are very competent and fun to work with. This team is one of my favorite to work with. Justin is a rock star ground man who hates to see brush on the ground. He is a man of few words who just makes things happen slow and steady all day long. Garrett is a talented climber and rigger. When you've got big wood to lower or are about to send a big top, this guy is a rock star on the ropes. Me, I'm just a washed up has been that used to know how to climb.
Come join the team. We are looking for good people who value quality of life at home and at work. People who know how to make things happen on a jobsite but also do so in a way that is considerate of their teammates.
