ABR Ultra Sling

[ QUOTE ]
Doesn't look right to me. There would be forces in two directions. The normal pull that tightens the grip of a splice and the leverage of the cinch forcing it apart and putting the load on a couple strands. Must work I haven't tried it but the plan appears flawed.

Looks fine to me. Of course it works or they wouldn't sell it. Bevin is your brain still frozen from winter? … oh and … You appear flawed!

My opinion. I can make a whoopie on a coffee break for about $15. That leaves $75 left to get something useful like a pinto rig or a massage.

I'm thinking a new topic heading may be in order for the direct sales pitches.

If you look back you will see that the things I started threads on, UltraSling, Rig and Ring, and the rigSAVER are all projects I have been posting on for quite some time, and were originally things I made on my couch for myself.

I am excited that they are production pieces now, thats all. Besides, I have been starting threads on new gear since I joined these forums!

...and I am all for making stuff yourself. We sell splicing fids and instruction manuals for anyone thats interested :)

or I can tell you how to make all the tools for free!

It definitely is exciting to see your own ideas become production pieces and it sucks when people then talk negative about it, especially before they even actually work with it.

If someone likes a sling design, even if it is a very simple splice that an amateur can do, I say, at least buy ONE from the person or company that put the idea out there in public; in order to support new ideas and give back to the one that put it out there. Just a thought.

For sure I'm flawed Bix but still doing stuff others wouldn't attempt on their best day. I was looking for an angle to push a bad tree guys chipper that came off his bumper deeper into the ditch with him watching. But I couldn't quite get the angle so I drove on with a poker face just now for example. I'm no splicer either just looks wrong. If I'm lugging around a fat rope I want to use all of it not divide it in half.

The tri x-rings is Sort of silly. I won one and while blown away at the complex and beautiful splice, I ended up taking it apart cause i didnt know what to do with it other than take down cows in argentina. i ended up making three very functional slings out of it. I would like to see a snake anchor type sling with a large x-ring on it. That would be pretty cool.

Point taken guys. The infomercial feel of the place is starting to wear thin for me.

well cry me a river, back to Amateur night on TB

ABR ultra sling looks fine to me and it will cinch up...it might not be for everyone but some might find it very usefull

I think the truth though is that its pretty hard to beat a cow hitch. All the whoopsies and loopies, can't really beat a good cow hitch. The tri rings, an around your elbow to get to your thumb way around ken palmers B.S. patent on a big ring and a small ring.

Cow hitch is what I'm comparing it to. It may test new but I gotta figure the cycles to failure are greatly reduced. Do you have any data you want to publish on that Nick? I'll look for similar data on a cow hitch. Could take awhile to find that. Or maybe someone knows that comparison without doing an hour search? Spent all day on this computer.

This thread has been amusing to say the least, now I will add some peanuts to the peanut gallery...I have tried whoopies and loopies, don't care for them...I have one loopie now for my other climber who fumbles with knots but does tie them OK, he likes it...me I am a plain ole cow hitch...timber hitch kinda guy...whatever floats one's boat..now Bix stop dumping on Bore's parade....before I gotta fix ya...let's behave

Cut the crap in general. Anyway would this sling make it through a season of slammin'? Or do I need to werd it simpler? Other than the test breaks do you splicers load your throats often and how's the durability? Really looks wrong.

Boreality,

Thanks for your questions, and concern. The Ultra Sling went through some pretty severe cycle testing in the choked configuration. We are super pleased with the results and don't have any reservations regarding the Ultra Sling's durability. Our field testers have also had a bunch of success with it.

I would be more than happy to talk to you about the testing if you want to give me a call at the shop sometime during the week. The number is (317) 293-3401. Or shoot me an email nick @ treestuff and I will give you my cell number. If you call the shop I can also put you in touch with the ABR guys if you have some technical questions that are above my head.

Is that configuration used often? Do you knoe what I mean by loading the throat? Continue. Anybody? Seems like a legitimate concern to me. So I guess what I'm missing is it's not a cow hitch but it works. It's an alternative that passes inspection and testing and my concern the cow hitch is better is off topic. Gotcha. I take these trips and never leave the farm.

The choked configuration is the only recommended config.

I understand perfectly what you mean about loading the throat, that is the recommended and tested configuration.

We also tested it in every other configuration you can imagine just to be safe.
