Errrr... , Mum?! /forum/images/graemlins/bigeyes.gif

Right, you guys. You've done it now, better run, else you're in for a thorough thrashing. She's handy with that broomstick of hers! /forum/images/graemlins/aaa.gif

Re: A tight squeeeeeze \'n\' gargoyles

Thanks for the input Jerry.

I've heard guys from Chicagoland use 'wreck' also.

I've always thought (perhaps wrongly) that 'Technical Removal' meant that complicated and/or advanced rigging was involved.

Re: A tight squeeeeeze \'n\' gargoyles

I always liked the trees you could just "blow the tops out" no rigging needed, lots of room but not quite enough to flop . . er. cake work

Re: A tight squeeeeeze \'n\' gargoyles

Hi Mark, very nice work and Basel looks very nice too! I've seen the pics of the ground man,and I would ask you why he tied a pulley just over the GRCS?

Ciao! /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: A tight squeeeeeze \'n\' gargoyles

I think the pulley above the GRCS is used as a fairlead to direct the rope into the pins on the GRCS. The pins have been bent when too large a load is taken and the rope doesn't enter straight.

Re: A tight squeeeeeze \'n\' gargoyles

As Tom stated why and we use it all the time. Just like a fair lead into your friction hitch. Doesn't take much to bend those pins with the strength of the GRCS

Re: A tight squeeeeeze \'n\' gargoyles

Yup, that's the one, Tom.

I think it's good practice as a matter of course to mount a pulley above the GRCS.

Either to use as a fairlead as Tom says or in case you decide to remove the GRCS from the base of the tree you're working on and switch it to another tree when the situation for the groundie gets too hazardous at the base of the tree you're working on. In such a situation re-routing the line via the pulley avoids lateral loads on the rigging point. Essentially the line runs the same as in a normal config, except that at the base of the tree to be dismantled (!) it's redirected horizontally to a neighbouring tree from where the GRCS can be operated in safety.

Am I being clear here?!

Re: A tight squeeeeeze \'n\' gargoyles

Thanks to all you guys,I'll start to use a pulley too!

Hey,on tree-buzz there's always something to learn! /forum/images/graemlins/icon14.gif
