A question about kid\'s climb at a TCC

Hello,

I did a search for this info, but could not find anything on it in the TB....

But we tried to get a kid's climb going at the CAA-TCC this year, and were turned down by the ISA and our insurance provider on the request to have a kid's climb.

I know they had one at the ITCC, and many other chapters have them, what kind of insurance do you need to have, what are the costs?

I still would like to put on a kid's climb, but I don't want to go at it without proper insurance.

Any suggestions or answers would be greatly appreciated!

Stephan

I'm not sure I'll look into it for you Stephan. We have one at Purdue for the society of arboriculture for springfest and the club has taken care of it in the past and then last year we were told no but it's gonna happen again this year so I'll look into it and see what I come up with. Also you might try to PM Norm Hall. He's a great guy and is a big part of the Illinois TCC and they have a very successful one there.

I realized that my previous reply probably wasn't too much help so I revised it to try and directly answer the question. Here's the one insurer I know of in the U.S. who covers people who run tree climbs. They'll insure per event or for annual coverage. You can call them to get a quote:

Tree Climbers International- or Inc. Check out the fall Sherrill Catalog. Also search Tree climbing birthday parties for insurance info. What a pain. Kids also really seem to enjoy touching gear, tying knots, etc. so if we can't let the litle booger eaters climb, we can give them somentiing to do. We had the TN Titans mascot and local fire/emt crews out in Tn and were trying to schedule a life flight landing.
