A hitch with a twist.

I know I don't use the standard friction hitches as much as many here as I favor the Uni and HH but when I do, I like it to work well.
I've been playing with adjusting the twist and I'm not referring to wraps or braids.
Thoughts?

A hitch with a twist

Richard,

I never gave it any thought whether there were twists made to the friction cord, but it certainly makes a lot of sense this would alter the response on the rope.

nice job. Very insightful.

I use thinner line, and have wraps and twists, a twist at the top and at the bottom. By twist I mean that the rope is wrapped around itself before doing another braid.

I would not rely on just twisting the rope, as in time the twist would work its way out.

someone else from the buzz mentioned this to me once. it was described as the orientation of the eyes (like where the end of the cord faces on stitched eyes), but same idea. good call

Have you tried this on HHs?

Because of the connection at the dog bone it really is not possible and when you try, it un-twists pretty quickly. PS, I did not try but perhaps a longer tail on the stopper knot would stop it from in-twisting.
