A Bad Day at Boutte Tree, Inc.

thanks for the story. eye opening for me, especially being brand new to crane work. it makes me want to study even harder to be the best i can be. i actually heard about this right afterwards(small town as you know). i ve always heard good things about you and your company and am glad everyone was alright. stay safe brother

Tierson- i congratulate you on your honesty. My thought was safety starts with the estimator choosing the right crane. My guess is you were working at 70' with 118' of boom out rating you to 3800lbs. I too work in that 50% of load chart range. Based on the size wood you were referencing I would have bid the job using a bigger crane. I dont really like working wood that large with that little capacity.
I'm sure there are people that will disagree with me. I think its important to have a distance that you wont work at. I also wont do huge trees out close to that distance. I will hire a bigger crane. No one crane will do every job.

Good luck!
