6\" chipper preference???

Which 6" chipper would you prefer?

Why? Please be as complete as possible. I'm trying to gather information before a purchase decision is made.

I think that I had another thread like this but I can't find it.

Re: 6\" chipper preference???

I own a vermeer 625a and love it. It is great on fule makes really nice small chips and is light and fits into tight places. The company that I climb for has the bandit 6inch. I really dont like it. It is alwas having problems, it is direct drive and when we run dead wood it is alwas stopping the feed wheels. The vermeer dose'nt do that. The other thing is the feed table is about a foot lower on the bandit so its harder on your back if your feeding it alot. Hope that helps.

Re: 6\" chipper preference???

The vermeer is a nice machine but the opening is absolutely itty bitty. I believe the bandit has a wider opening that will handle wider branch unions and crotches. I own a 625 as well but if I had an option between the two I would probably choose the bandit. I only gave $1700 for my vermeer and it was in a great shape and still is so I couldn't pass it up.

Tom,

If you're going for new, Bandit.

And for a power unit I'd go with the wisconsin for gas or the kubota diesel. Guess it depends on your budget.

Tom the treeboy,

Hi.

you better watch it!

Re: 6\" chipper preference???

..... I was close to buying the Brush Bandit 6 with the Wisconsin .... great machine , wound up buying a 7 inch Morbark ...2070 with a diesel it's much more machine , you gain the the more user friendly infeed level ...

Re: 6\" chipper preference???

Tom we have a morbark cyclone 8. It is plenty heavy enough to take a beating. The only thing I wish we had done is got the bigger diesel engine. The standard 25 hp Koler is a little small. We drag it around with a Toro utility vehicle with a little 1 +/- yard box. works good for getting in tight spaces. Great little machine

Re: 6\" chipper preference???

I had a Vermeer 935 which was a bigger version of the 625. Same design only 9 inch size with 35 wisconsin gas motor. Made great chips and wasn't too bad to manuver around. Gravely also had a nice 9 inch machine that would be good, but I don't know if they are still making it.

Re: 6\" chipper preference???

Bandit.

Vermeer's infeed width sucks.

I got this one for $4200 when I first started, used it and sold it for more.

Anyone try the Salsco 6" or the Carlton 6" chippers?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. We had a Salsco 6" before our Morbark. If the material was wet, it would clog the shute, if it was dry it would jam the feed system, if there were leaves on it it would clog, if there were not, it MIGHT chip it (if the stars and the moon of Pluto were in line). We actually would haul brush rather than use that thing.

Also when the shute would clog you would have to take it off the machine to clean it.

If the shute wasnt heavy enough, fill it with wood chips and leaves.

(that was my back going out). I wouldnt recoment the salsco. Dont know about the Carlton.

Re: 6\" chipper preference???

What ever you do Tom make sure you get plenty of power.
My little Morbark will keep up with 2 guys stuffing it, we'd be waiting on the little Vermeer.
Much better than stacking brush on a trailer though.

Re: 6\" chipper preference???

i love my lil morbark. its great. It would be cool to get the diesel on it though. I didnt even know that was possible.

Re: 6\" chipper preference???

its the 2060D hurricane or cyclone or tornado?. i just painted it. I like it because you can push it around by hand, or tow it with a car. I would like a beefier engine,. I bought it here on TREEBAY three years ago for 5,000.
