338xp sprocket to rim

I am changing my 338 from a sprocket to a rim system and I am wondering if you use the large washer between the clutch and sprocket housing system and place it between the clutch and rim housing.

Well, my sprocket was worn into two groves and figured that since I was changing the sprocket I might as well upgrade to a rim and drum. To my understanding, the rim will be the only thing to replace in the future and the floating charcteristic should help with preformance and bar wear.

If I am incorrect please let me know as I am new in the mechanics of the chainsaw but experienced in other things.

I contacted Bailey's concerning the subject and they said you must use the washer for spacing or the clutch could fly off.

Yeah use the washer I've seen clutches fly apart and are you changing the pitch to 325?I upgraded a 141 and I couldn't find a 3/8 lo pro rim and drum so I went with 325 pitch chain. It didn't seem to lose any power.

Did you end up changing the bar too. I gotta check what I got and see. I haven't put it into service yet so it might be back to sprocket until later.

I got the .325 and just talked to Bailey's about it and they are sending me the .365 low pro. Thanks for the information.

After action report:

I got the 3/8 rim in and now the chain is too short to fit over the bar tip.

Lesson learned:

Stick with the sprocket. It is less expensive due to the non-conformity of the rim and drum.

Regrets:

None
