24 strand tenex splice

Hi,

I am looking for some spicing instructions for a 24 strand 16mm tenex line. I want to splice the stuff the old school way so no locking brummel.

What i found so far is for a 12 strand rope.
See page 6 on link below. I wonder if can i just follow the same procedure?

It sounds like you may have Tenex TEC or two end carrier. TENEX is 12 strand but the TEC has two carriers per "strand"

I can't see any reason why you can't splice it with a straight bury following directions for polyester 12 strand.

Tenex TEC is the link Norm provided. Look at the "Features" column, top right corner:

"Class 1 12-Strand splice"

You have 12 strand Tenex-TEC, which is two carriers per strand, making it look like its 24 strands.

The second picture you posted is that of a 3 strand eye splice, which is not the type of material you have. Follow these instructions for 12 strand and it will turn out well.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions on splicing. If you splice a hollow braid with 'tucks' (the method in your 2nd attachment), it's not an approved splice for that construction. A 'bury' splice will be much cleaner and much kinder to the rope than a tuck splice.
Always end it with stitching (lock or whipping).

Okay guys i get it. I just thought it would be fun to make a tucked splice in that rope. Just to see how to do it and how it would look...and hold.

If you want to experiment just for the sake of experimenting you might look into a "plait" splice. There are a number of 8 and 12 strand plait ropes that can be spliced with tucks so you might be able to extrapolate a method for the tenex.

Just keep in mind that such a splice is not approved by the maker and shouldn't be relied on for support of any kind without proper testing.

Here's a lanyard I used in the early 90's with True Blue spliced eyes. I showed these splices to Samson rope and they had no problem with me using them for life support at that time. I'm sure it wouldn't be allowed as a 'life support' component now. This type of splice took me about 1 hour per splice. Not a productive splice at all.
As you can see by the wear, I used this lanyard for a long time. It was my favorite at the time.

That is pretty cool Norm. Being able to splice true blue would be an amazing skill just to have. Not to really use or anything but just to do.
