Yes, you can use it however you please as long as it is within the diameter range it specifies. Also if it is within the guidelines outlined on their site. https://m.petzl.com/US/en/Professional/Descenders/technical-content-product/ZIGZAG

They recommend "semi static". I use mine on static and other ropes...

Mine grip like champs. Like any piece of gear though, play with it "on the ground" (10'-15' Max) to get familiar with it and it's characteristics before working on it blindly on site in a tree. My daughters were hesitant with them at first climb. Midway second climb, they found their grooves and like them more than some of the other methods of access.

Just remember, you touch the top of it, chain links, you're moving period...

That's exactly what I did. I wanted some more gear, it just wasn't in the budget at the moment so it suddenly became in the budget.

I caught up with some great friends and saved $175 at gap Arborist on Friday. I was super stoked. New 3/4 rope for crane slings, rocket line for our ascent device, new pole saw blades they guys will love after our marathon pin oak pruning, restocked our branch saver stores that have been depleted recently. And on top of that was given a foam cavity fill kit to try out and report back as to it effectiveness.
The best part of all was recounting all the fun stuff from the last 14 years with one of the coolest guys I’ve worked with!
