Selling my 2018 15xpc Cat Diesel 430 hrs. Purchased a new 18xp finally showing up next week! Listed on marketplace but figured I’d throw it up on here as well. If you live in the NW welcome to test drive any time.

Chipper was on an Fmi lot in Texas. I bought it brand new from FMI with full warranty and 15 hrs in March of 2021 during the COVID chipper shortage. I run a small owner operated tree service. Been my chipper for the past 4 years only run by myself and 2 highly confident employees. All necessary service has been preformed as to manual timing specs and knives are kept sharp.

The machine had Def code issues at 130 hrs. Peterson Cat replaced the entire def system including, tank, all filters, sensors, the works. Totaled at around 15k and was covered by warranty which I have all receipts. I have done new starter and new lower feed wheel bearing and feed wheel. The chipper is a beast and eats anything you can fit in it. We feed it with my sk800 in quick big bursts hence the low hours. I make huge piles and send then through. It’s a processing machine!

Bandit was offering an epic apr rate and I wanted to switch to gas after the def debacle. That being said the thing has preformed epically over the last year and hoping I’m not making a mistake changing it up. Chipper comes with 3 sets of knives. You’re welcome to come run it at a job site any time.

Asking $45,000.00

It says a sever error occurs every time I try to upload a pic. Never had that issue before. I’ll try to upload pics after listing.

I feel like the diesels handle big wood faster, but the gassers don't clog with heavy needles and lots of leaf as easily. I have gotten to run matching Bandit 250xp's, but one was gas and the other diesel, and that was I came up with in the three months I got to use the gasser

Matias the 250XP's would be disk chippers right?

NWPEZ what had you do lower feed wheel and bearings? That seems very early in it's life to have issues there.

@Merle Nelson. Thanks for the kind words on condition. It’s a damn nice chipper and well taken care of. I just dont want to deal with bandit and Cat separately and was wanting to make a change.

Im not sure why we had lower feed wheel bearing failure so early. When it’s fed with the mini we always open the wheels to allow entry and it’s greased daily. Was a $3,200.00 baffler to me too!! Mechanic didn’t have a cause or proprietary reason to give me either.

Options are pretty much the stock 15xpc items. It has helper springs and obviously the standard hydraulic lift and crush. I am not sure if it is a wider feed tray or not. It does not have a winch but since we have the mini that hasn’t been a problem. It sips fuel especially how we run it. I wanted to keep it for a fire season chipper but moving around of funds aren’t making that a viable option at the moment.

If I hadn’t just bought a disc chipper I would’ve bought that in a heartbeat. I like the ease of changing blades on the drum chippers. Also, I think it is a feature that it DOESN’T have a winch. Feeding with the Avant all day is a pain with the winch in the way. If I buy another chipper it will likely be an 15 or 18XP with no winch.

Yeh, I hope I don’t regret the winch on my new chipper with as much as I machine feed. Have been allot of jobs lately felt like a winch would have been very useful and freed up the mini for other tasks . See if the trade off is worth it.

I think drums the way to go. Had a 12xpc that made great chips but nothing compared to the shear power of the drum. Not to mention knife changes take 10-15 min on the drum with the right tools. Also have never gotten a chute clog with the drum chipper.

I’ve had the opposite experience. Lots of chip clogs with the drum chipper unless the anvil is adjusted properly and blades are kept sharp. Also, if I turn my chute to the side on the drum chipper it almost always clogs even with fresh knives and proper anvil adjustment.

The winch can be nice for the right project but for as often as I use it, I find it more in the way than anything. If I need to winch, I’ll bring my tractor with the PTO skidding winch.

As I understand it drum chippers throw well straight forward and up to 45° to each side. I rented a Bandit 12XPC drum chipper to chip a mas of big pine limbs and tops. Most of it was going 45° forward over a fence to a neighbor who wanted the chips. When almost done I spun the chute around and chipped a number of branches back over one corner of the feed table. They puked out about 8 or 10 feet.

Since I frequently can shoot chips on the ground if I can get them where desired I'm going to look hard at the biggest Bandit disk chipper. (Go and see one being fed under similar conditions.)

Maybe I’ve gotten lucky with my anvil gaps. Knock on wood never had a clog with this machine. I was shooting at 90 degrees off forward last week for 15 plus yards with no problems. The mini is definitely my go to chipping method. Only time will tell how we will mesh with the winch.

Vermeer makes a fold up winch on there Ax17. It is bad ass!! Unfortunately the rest of the machine isn’t that amazing and price point is crazy! I bet with some ingenuity and good fabbing something similar could be done aftermarket. Be cool to start a thread see if anyone’s ever attempted it.

North coast, between Tillamook and Seaside. We lived in Lincoln city for 20 years been up here going on 4.
Your surf sucks compared to ours :bailando:… just joking, that area is gorgeous. Great price on a low hour machine, good luck with that sale and new purchase

Haaa. Depending on the day I won’t argue with you. I may have spent a few thousand hours and miles chasing tides and flow charts up in your neck of the woods! Both beautiful places, can think of worse spots to be! Haa.

Thanks, hopefully it finds a good new home and I don’t kick myself in the face on my new purchase.
