200T Smokes After Larger Cuts

Why does it seem like the plastic is melting on 200T's after cutting a larger size limb? Say, a limb diameter about the length of the bar? And then they smoke for a few minutes. What's the deal? New bar and chain and cutting like a beast.

I had an old 200T that would do that......right up until the time it lean seized.
My other treasured remaining one gets treated with more kindness and not pushed to the max cutting big stuff.

Appreciate it y'all. The thing cuts so fast it's tempting to use it when another saw dulls instead of stopping and sharpening/swapping out chains like I should. It's just not made for big wood, huh?

It looks to be near the exhaust. Those little plastic grills get caked up with black tar stuff. Maybe wood resins?? I figured it was just that gunk burning off. Clutch is in that area so it certainly could be.

probably saw oil, saw dust built up saw gunk, how often do you clean your saw ? I found the best way is to remove side case and recoil case put the choke on and use a pressure washer to clean flywheel fan and cooling fins also make sure the recoil case and side case / chain brake area is clean and air can flow easily through the saw. two areas to be cautious with when spraying are the carburetor and the muffler , you don't want to fill the engine with water.

something else I do is keep an extra air filter on the truck for each saw, so I can wash one out with soap and water, put the other clean filter on the saw while the other is drying, works great as long as you keep one clean.

The 200T flywheel fan seems to pull in an oil mist that comes off of the bottom of the bar. You may want to degrease with something like Dawn dish detergent as part of the cleanup. I don't use a pressure washer, I wet with a Dawn/water solution and blow clean with compressed air.
