192T

I just picked up a basically new 192T for $200 and had a couple questions for those who run them. should I stay with the .043 chain? I'm thinking this would be a good idea since the saw doesn't have as much power as a 200. Will pulling the spark arrestor screen make a difference and are there any simple mods to gain a little power?
 
Pulling the screens on the 192T doesnt have the same effect as on the 200T. The screens on the 192T are like the ones on a regular saw muffler, not a screen inserted INTO the muffler and blocking airflow the the 200T design. You can hoever open the muler up with a dremel tool. Dont go any more than 75% bigger than the original port on the cylinder side of the muffler.

Other than that sending it out to be modified is really the only other option.

Dont forget to richen up the H screw on the carb a bit after you do a muffler mod.
 
Thanks for the replies. Maybe I'll eventually get an .050 bar and chain and try it. Does opening up the muffler make a noticeable difference? Otherwise I'll probably just leave it.
 
Opening the muffler will make a noticeable difference in performance. It will make the saw a bit louder too, but worth the performance gain.

If you are going to switch to .050 PM chain and bar, and you will be running a 14", try the "light" bars made by Stihl. 33% lighter and really balance out this saw.
 
Let me throw in my two cents regarding the chain.

I bought my son an ms180, don`t laugh, he was only seven at the time, and it was outfitted with the .043 chain on a 14" bar which I laughed at until I cut with it. For a tiny, cheap, and lightweight saw it cuts very respectably with that chain.

Then when he rocked out the .043 so many times that it was useless I switched it over to a 12" Stihl bar and Stihl .050 Lo Pro that I had here. There is a distinct difference in performance running the larger chain, and it was not good. I`d stick with the .043 chain on the 192T and I wouldn`t even consider putting money into modifying it.
 
Open up the muffler and keep the .043 chain if you can cause it does cut faster than the .050 . Now look around cause some of the other chain companys build a better tooth in the .043 . I know I use Carlton on saws I build and test here , its not a chisel tooth but very close to it and cuts very well
 
Thanks thats kind of what I figured in regards to the chain. Maybe after I get the saw broken in I'll think about messing with the muffler. Never done it before but it can't be too difficult to drill a hole and richen it up a little.
 
The MS192T is never going to match the MS200T, no matter what you do unless you can increase the cc's by 5.1 the 192 is 30.1cc and the 200 is 35.2cc.Power wise there is a difference RPM wise there is not a mere 500RPMs.

What's the difference between running the .050 chain and the .043 chain??

Also, I don't think the guys buying the 192 are looking for it to match the 200t, the weight to me would make it worth while for trimming jobs, but of course the 200 is THE ultimate TD saw.

The difference is the width of the kerf, Stihl 61PMN chain is not as wide as the Stilh PM, RM, or RS chain.In Oregon it is 90SG. You can get the 192T with 63PM chain on it new. I sell the 192T with the 61PMN 3/8 43ga. or with the 63PM 3/8 50ga. chain and bar combos. Which if you are going to use it alot I would be running the 63PM 3/8 50ga. chain. The 61PMN 3/8 43ga. is a gardeners chain ment for light duty. I have seen these chains break more than once. I up graded the saw to the 50ga. chain and no more problems.
