16 strand Ring and Ring FS

Anyone had any luck with only tapering the tails to 8 strands instead of 6 and getting the tails to cross over? Just tried this and i think ill be pulling out the scissors on this one.

My thinking was to try to retain 8 strands as a "core", but I've got a feeling the cover strands are beefier than the parallel core strands. This due to the monofilament strand in the cover yarns?

Arbormaster brw by the way.

The crossover is confusing. My line of thought is 11" of taper on each end, crossed over 5.5" past center on each tail will give the correct crossover bury and be smooth. Sorry, total greenhorn to splicing, terms may be goofy.

Ian if you would have told me you were giving splicing a try I would have thrown in some lanyard size pieces for you in the last package I sent. Next time I'll hook you up! Also check your email i sent you a message.

Never attempted such a FS with 16 stand (I'm also green as grass when it comes to splicing). If you do one and have it broken, I'd sure like to know the method you used and the results you got.

Casey,

What was the overall length from the throat of one side to the other throat on the other side. Just curious thats all.

I can't remember man. I no longer have that friction saver. What I based it off of for total length was the crossover length plus the length of the taper if it were just a simple eye splice.

Casey,

How do you like the coccoon & ring friction saver? Do you notice less friction with the coccoon (instead of another ring) or does it not make much difference?

Hey Joe,
When I had it there was a little less friction. I don't have that pulley anymore. I updated to the DMM Pinto Pulleys. I did it that way originally to possibly use it in a choke style for lets say removals.

Hope all is well man.
