12 volt capstan winch

Tom it says it's a 120 volt capstan winch. Is there a 12 volt available also? An inverter for that current draw would be very expensive.

One another note:
If the axle of the bottom feed roller could be extended and a capstan installed and a pulley mounted high on the back of the chipper that would make a nice capstan winch. The feed roller control bar would control the winch.

My mistake I guess...

Since it was mounted on a vehicle's reciever hitch I assumed it was 12v. A winch motor sure would do the trick.

The catch with making a capstan from a winch motor is the loading on the motor shaft. Since the outboard end of the winch spool is supported there is much less torque on the motor shaft. Not a hard problem to solve though if someone were cobbling one together.

There's lots of very powerful 12V windlasses out there. Very common on boats. Maybe nobody's done this for rescue gear though. Wouldn't be hard to adapt.
