1/2" stable braid or super braid.

1/2\" stable braid or super braid.

Has anyone ever used a 1/2" bull line in this type of rope? I wanted to get a 200' piece of this to use for the smaller removals instead of the 9/16" or 5/8" bull ropes. Any thoughts??? Thank you.

Re: 1/2\" stable braid or super braid.

I used half inch double braid for a rigging rope until it got cut by a groundie. Now, for lighter rigging I use a half inch sixteen strand rope that I had but didn't use as a climbing line. It has a spliced eye so it works well. The rigging I've done with it has been light so the stretch isn't a factor.

1/2"Double braid is my primary bull rope, until I need to go bigger.

Jeeez, and you do big work, Greg. I always feel unsafe rigging out with my
1/2" double braid.
9/16" is my bull rope of choice

Re: 1/2\" stable braid or super braid.

We mainly use the 9/16" line as a bull rope but there are alot of situations with smaller removals or removals that don't have the massive wood that the 1/2" might just be easier to drag around throughout the tree rather than the 9/16" or 5/8".

Re: 1/2\" stable braid or super braid.

I prefer Super-Braid. It's a much tougher rope and won't pick like the Stable Braid. The trade-off is you can't splice it, but I don't splice my bullropes anywho.

Re: 1/2\" stable braid or super braid.

FWIW, I do lots of rigging with 7/16 Double Braid. no it isn't the right choice for rigging huge stuff.... But I seldom rig huge stuff and I have some other ropes when needed. Most of the time I use a 7'16th-lighter in weight, handles great.....Why would anyone want more for rigging stuff under 500-600 lbs?

Re: 1/2\" stable braid or super braid.

I have a 5/8" stable braid that is just an awesome workhorse of a line.

I don't have any problems with it picking because I only use it with my arborists blocks.

For natural crotch rigging my sampson 1/2" tree master 3 strand line works just fine.

Re: 1/2\" stable braid or super braid.

if your doing anything that could break a 1/2 stable braid, your into some big wood. I agree, The 7/16 is a nice size for moving around the tree work.

Re: 1/2\" stable braid or super braid.

Really? I broke my share of 1/2, 9/16, 5/8 and 3/4. Came close to breaking 1 inch it just had permanent stretch mark. My career isn't over I'll get R done. Remember don't this at home. It was always done in situations where the only thing we would hurt is the lawn. You know for sh$ts and giggles.

Re: 1/2\" stable braid or super braid.

Yeah.... um...

Anywho I dislike Super Braid. Its stiffness trades off considerable strength from my informal testing.

For the test I tied interlocking bowlines in the end of safety pro 12 and superbraid (both 1/2"). A fairly accurate synopsis was out of 10 times, the superbraid would break 6-8 times reusing the unbroke bowline. The safety pro is rated well below the Super Braid.

For 1/2" I perfer a 16 strand, however I do have 1/2" Stable braid and up to 1 1/8" doule braid from samson.

For stable braid my most used size is 9/16" but the 3/4" gets used a good bit. The 5/8" gets used also, but normally its either big or small, not too much inbetween.

Re: 1/2\" stable braid or super braid.

True, Super is a harder lay rope bit that is also what makes it practically invinceable. It's great to use as a lanyard.
