026 dies when revved

I changed the air filter, fuel filter and line, cleaned up the spark arrestor and plug, rebuilt the carb and attempted to tune it yet it still will not rev past idle no matter how long I let it warm up. It was spitting some oil out of the muffler which made me think I was tuning way too rich but no matter how lean I go it still won't run right. I start at 3/4 turn out on the high screw and 1 on the low which has worked well on all my other saws. I would like to get someone elses opinion before I start tearing the whole saw apart. Ideas?

Have you checked for a vacuum leak or done a compression test? A cheap compression test is to judge by feel how it feels on the pull rope. Little to no resistance, low compression.

A shop could do both test for probably one hour shop rate, then you could rebuild the saw based off of the results.

Feels fine pulling on the rope. Just a bit lighter than my 455 Rancher, the only comparable saw i have on hand. Ill try to pick up a compression and vacuum tester tomorrow as that will cost about as much as paying someone to do it. Plus the nearby shops either close so early that its like theyre never open or are so far into the boonies a couple inches of snow makes them inaccessible.
