MB, what I meant by without warning, while turning in the saddle and reaching the ring would slide. When your not expecting it. Yes you could jerk the thing every time you turn to set it. The heck with the learning curve. Give me a old fashion butt pincher.
I tried a saddle with a sliding D ring. Hated it. Slid without warning, kinda spooked me. But last straw was when my chest hairs got caught in the D ring while repelling. Ouch.
I skip the set of holes at the bend of my foot. It seems to give me a little more flex to my boot.I finish with the not recommended double shoelace knot.
Goes to show ya even with someone holding the ladder you can still bust your a** I hate them also.I won't prune ornamentals because of having to use ladders. But then for Palms and getting on roofs i chance it. Hope your Dad gets will soon.

I use a Echo 3400 for trimming,a top handle saw that is well balanced. I use it one handed when trimming with an extended reach.In 20 years of tree work Never had a chainsaw cut that required stitches. 'Knock on wood' Chapps good for cutting on ground with big saws...

Fresh mulch in an aerobic state would rob more then just N from the soil, I'm not a scientist (far from one) but the chemical reaction could be toxic to tender plants. I've seen fresh stump ground Champhor fry Azalea's Let that mulch cool for 2-weeks, that's my guess.
