your intellect is truly dizzying:) , but well said and I did follow and that is exactly what happened. The double half hitches held on. The horizontal load with movement has potential for the unexpected.
Earlier this summer my son Taylor and I were taking care of some storm work. It was a horizontally hung limb involving two trees. Taylor placed a block in each tree and secured both ends with separate ropes and we had two GRCS' for lowering the limb. I was alone on the ground so having the...
My point exactly. We have many safety features in place. I just use the risk assessment as an awareness tool. We have headsets on every crew member. I like the discussion this generates. There are so many aspects to what we do we can't put safety on any simple formula. A super competent...
On Thursday April 20, 2000 my brother was sick and I went to work anyway alone. I misconnected but didn't visually inspect and foot-locked up to 33 feet, put my feet on a stub, started my Husky 339 to cut a branch and fell backwards to the ground landing on my head and shoulders with my head...
My social media guy opened this account in March to promote our new efforts on youtube. He wasn't at all adept at communicating with arborists and got lots of comments like that right here:) My apologies for not checking up on him sooner. I think a lot of people want to feel like they are in...
Two Alterna Mats side by side perpendicular to the fell then a third mat centered on the seam of the bottom two. 3 or 4 old tires down the middle of the top pad then a 12 inch diameter log across the tires. Sounds like you may not have any branch wood laying around so if the space is real...
In general double braid construction doesn't do well under friction. That's why I switched back to 16 strand. Like another comment above, why not have simple construction to inspect on something so critical. the only thing it needs to do is hold me, no other factors really matter:)
Be careful what you ask for. Tree care is one of the last frontiers that can start a business on true grit and desire. Many of us did that. Interesting that once many get there with established businesses, they want to go to the legislature and litigate the little guy out of the very ladder...
Again, an act of God destroyed the one side and they are separate stems at the ground. A true co-dominant stem shares the same xylem below the crotch. if you injected die at the base of the stem I removed, I am quite certain none of it would get into the apposing stem. I would wager you could...
I totally agree. Don't we all rely on "neighborhood" work. This guy left a bogus google review for the President of the non-profit just to get back at him. The president is just a local business man who is literally the nicest guy and polite in every way. The problem is another local company...
The outriggers were one foot over a very funcky property line situation where three properties share a corner. The other neighbor never approached us but I switched to the driveway setup shortly after that clip to be "above reproach". We actually work hard to please the neighbors. We been in...
Here's the deal, its a gig culture. You will never win against the short term thinking of the opportunist. That contract climber makes more than any employee, but he is doing big jobs everyday that normal employees can't and working with good crews and bad alike. They also play in a field...
So I have officially taken over the posting on tree buzz from my social media editor:) He was posting on behalf of the company, but I will personally take that responsibility to stay within the purpose and mission of this forum. Thanks for all the feedback guys,
Kevin Hamm
I’m currently using 16 strand with good life. I’ve used Beeline in the past with good longevity. The cover tends to frey in time. I found the core to be solid upon retirement. Just replace before the cover comes apart.
I certainly got a chuckle from your post. Point very well taken:) I typically avoid insults and my lack of practice is definitely made apparent by your expert advise:) Thanks for your creativity.

Hey Tom, Good to connect with you again, I posted my apology above. I didn't personally post that description, but I should have monitored a bit more closely. I hope all is well with you in retirement. Are you living back in Minnesota now? I pass through every once in a while on the way to...
Thanks Tom for your subtle defense. :) Sorry to distract from the subject matter with a derogatory name. The post was meant to add value as it is a common situation to run into a disgruntled neighbor. The entitlement mentality here just seemed to fit. I've spoken with my editor and we'll...
Well we had a difficult neighbor on the job site and he demanded we remove his tree for free and he would also not allow us to step one foot on his property. I'm curious to know if you guys thought we did the right thing. Also I would add that we help people out all of the time and if this guy...
