    Fred Marvin tools

No problem with the blades but the ferrules on Marvin poles are softer, wear faster and gall more that Jameson's. They are not "bad" just less good.

    Bandit 90XP problem

Had a similar issue on my 90XP. Everything is computer controlled and if the computer overheats or whatever happens in that mysterious mess it can turn down your performance. I was investigating getting a new processor ($1000) when mine went through enough cycles, cooldowns, whatever that it...

    Luke Glines

Luke is taking responsibility for his choice of TIP.....because that is the kind of man he is. However, there is more to the story. While setting up the tree Mark James and I recognized the crotch that failed as the likely target for the competitors..... most centrally located high TIP. He and I...

It was fun. I hated missing the Masters. The attitudes displayed by all the competitors coming through throwline were awesome.

what size throw bags do you use ?

I have used bags from 8-16 oz but will probably never buy another in any weight besides 12oz or 14oz. 12 usually hits the balance between ease of throwing and getting the bag to drop for me.

Yesterday was a fun day despite MISERABLE weather in Ft. Collins ,CO. Luke Glines squeaked ahead of Charlie Wagner in the the prelims and ran away with the Master's Challenge this year. Congrats to Kevin Kelley for his first Masters but very likely not his last. Thanks to all the volunteers and...

    Colorado TCC

..... and now it is over. It was a good time. Placement in the Master's was Charlie Wagner 1st, Luke Glines 2nd, and Bill Mattor 3rd. Bill had some tough luck and fouled gear kept him from finishing the tree but Luke and Charlie both did it well. Until the results were announced I really did not...

O . I think you need to take a Big Shot into the Master's-Your throwline skills are pretty good but hitting a tough shot fast and getting up there to show your great climbing skills would pay off. Jamin-Way to go thinking efficiency over style.....oh wait-you probably threw with your pinky up...

O made it to the Masters but had some tough times with his throwline on the Masters tree.

No. Charlie did not compete-he is honeymooning. Matt Mayo worked as a judge in the aerial rescue rather than competing and James Melton didn't participate this year. It was a good comp in that we had fun and there were some good trees for the events but several of the chapter's top climbers...

We had a good comp in Greeley, CO yesterday. Attendence was down a bit but those there had a good time. Luke Glines won most of the events and the Masters. Bill Mattor took second and O Gassaway third.

Agreed. The occassions when I use a balancer it is usually one of the eyespliced slings that I habitually carry in a pouch on my saddle. Tie end of lowering line at one point on the limb, girth the sling to second point on limb, throw tautline hitch around lowering line with tail of sling...

Jamin, Rethink it. The limb ends in a jagged line in the drawing just beyond the outside hitch. If the jagged line represents the actual broken end of a branch it is quite easy to girth onto the trunk end of the limb and drop a girth over the stubbed end and cinch it down........ the location of...

City to revisit controversial tree ordinance

Tom, Please don't play the superiority "you'll never get it " line. We understand your side of the argument. We simply reject it. If each of us is to be free, all must be free. Freedom brings responsibility, the capacity to choose badly and consequences for our choices but any attempt to save...

City to revisit controversial tree ordinance

Trees are property. What people do or have done to their own property is no one else's business so long as third parties are not being deliberately or negligently endangered. I oppose fascism in all of its diverse deviant forms.

Just use the transporter and beam them into the void. I think thta you will find the blowtorch idea to be a dud-it will get the wood to burn but the wood won't melt and wood is such a fine insulator that you won't get any real depth to the burn- You can light it but it will take a long time for...

    Windy days

If the wind forecast exceeds 25mph I try to schedule work that doesn't involve high work. If I'm on a job involving high work and the gusts surpass 35mph I generally pack it in. I've climbed in 50+mph winds. It sucketh the moose lips most hairy. There was a good reason (Hanger over a mobile home...

    Handsaw on leg vs. saddle

Sometimes both. If I only carry one it usually is on the saddle-right hip.
