I'm trying to put together the list of Charlotte winners and if I can, all the Master's qualifiers since the thing started in 2003. All help gratefully received.

Dead trees. First off don't climb them if you have other options.
But we all need to climb one sooner or later. I've done my share of them, and I have a little list of things I test for. I know the big dawgs here can add a lot more. Let's start.
1. Know the species and know why the tree died...
I just replaced my Sequoia with a TM light. I've used it on two small jobs so far.
It's not especially comfortable yet, but that's because I haven't done anything to it.
Seems like the bridge is too long for one. I also haven't figured out how to have the leg straps where I want them. Perhaps...
I'm poking around at this old ART positioner.
.
I took it apart and although it's very simple, I should have taken a few pictures. The picture shows it partly reassembled.
Anyway, any of you guys who have one of these old ones:
1. Can you confirm for me that I've put the spring in right? I...
Anyone else tried this? I think it was designed by August Hunicke.
I got to try this harness out for half a day. Not a working day, so I didn't attach anything to it.
I suppose this is a bit of a review.
It's a New Tribe, and I think it's designed to be a light production harness.
I hated it at...
In the old days I could use Picasa to imbed an image into a post, but now, I can't do it. Nothing works.
How do you include an image? I assume I still need a url.
Where should I store my photos? I thought Google photos would work, but I can't find a place to discover a url there.
Why is this so...
Is that enough saws for two people? That's not even the whole arsenal.
I find the saws to be temperamental on hot days with high humidity. Nice to have choices.
A client wants a tree swing and it's going to be installed between two tall pines anchored somewhere between 20 and 30 feet on each pine. We're planning it to be non invasive, secured with slings on each pine. It will be revisited every couple of years to make adjustments.
Has anyone done one...
OK. That's an exaggeration, but the Southern summer is still something to be reckoned with.
I've concluded after 4 years here and the previous balance of my life in the cold white north that although working in extreme cold is even more unpleasant and painful than the extreme heat; the heat is...
In a bygone day in a distant land I was following a heated argument about using mid-ties, or "near balance point ties" instead of butt ties as the preferred way to tie off a limb. I wish I could remember the points raised.
I don't think I've ever used one, at least on a piece of any significant...
A number of saws that usually run well are suddenly a pain to throttle up. Some of them I can get past the problem by goosing or coaxing the throttle until it gets to full speed.
A couple of others just aren't playing at all. They start but won't throttle up. They just die.
They are all getting...
Probably the closest I ever came to killing or seriously injuring myself on the job was today. If you saw it but weren't really paying attention, you might never notice. I did though.
Very hot and humid.
Last cut of the day. Chip cutting a 3ft oak stub. Maybe 8" diameter, so not a big piece...
Tinkering with a few carbs and changing out gaskets, diaphragms and needles has been revealing, but I didn't really know how the dang things really work
Until I found this.
Highly recommend!
I've been involved with the Charlotte competition for a few years. I think it's the largest of the somewhat regular style non-ISA sanctioned events.
This year we tried something new with throw line that's been on my mind for awhile. We eliminated the requirement to set a rope. You could use it...
We have 9 saws. Three of them were not operational since I've been here. Two of those were in pieces. One was a 200 that fell 70'.
Eventually, only three of the saws were running right.
I didn't want to think about trying to find someone reliable to fix 6 saws. Couldn't afford it anyway, so I...
I can't be the only person with the problem posting to this new design.
It's why I haven't been coming here as often as I might.
I can't scroll forward and back on what I'm writing.
I have no choice but to enter the past and go back and edit it.
On Managed Exceptions
You can start up a thread a hundred miles long arguing about things like one-handing a chain saw. I'm formulating an idea for myself, kind of a code of behaviour. There are few 'nevers' in tree work. But there are actions I describe for myself as 'managed exceptions'...
Anyone else get annoyed by the existing gear check sheets? I think they are ambiguous and confusing.
I believe that the sheets should be made tighter in that only components are checked, not configurations. Checking of configurations belongs to the head tech when a climber requests it or when he...
