    Bandit yoke lift issue

The yoke lift stopped working on my Bandit 150 yesterday. The hydraulic crush still works, so I'm guessing the issue is in the control valve and not the cylinder. When I pull the handle for the lift I don't see any sign of activation (no pulse in the hydraulic line). Looks like a new valve is...

Possibly Tubakia leaf spot on Red Oak or...?

Customer was asking me about one of their Red Oaks. They're pretty plant savvy and noticed that the leaves on the lower branches were dying rather than turning like the upper branches. I'm no disease expert, but possibly Tubakia leaf spot? Any other ideas? Also lots of sap sucker damage, but I...

    Cut lanyard

Cut my lanyard for the first (and hopefully last) time today. I was wrecking out two skinny fir trees amidst an ornamental garden, tossing branches and chunks into small openings. Decided to just cruise up with two lanyards and no rope, since they were only about 6-8"dbh and maybe 40ft tall...

PCW4000 - Portable Winch with clutch

Anybody have experience with this Portable Winch model - PCW4000? https://www.portablewinch.com/collections/pro-series-winches/products/pcw4000-a-gas-powered-winch-with-accessories Looks like it came out in the last few years. Has a centrifugal clutch and integrated progress capture. I've...

    What’s killing this red oak?

I was asked to deadwood a mature red oak and already had concerns about what seemed to be significant die back I could see from the ground. In the tree I found that some larger branches and possibly whole stems were dead or dying back. There are no known cases of Oak wilt in Maine, but there is...

Leaking feed wheel motor on Bandit chipper

I recently bought a used Bandit 150 and I've found that both feed wheel motors are leaking a bit of hydraulic fluid. It's not a huge amount, but both drip steadily from around the shaft seal when running. I've been using a rag or catch can underneath for now and trying to decide how to proceed...

    Dogwood Chainsaw Pants 40% off

I had been thinking about trying Arborwear's Dogwood pants and happened to notice today that they're now 40% off until April 5th. (Only the apron though, not calf wrap). Certainly worth trying for less than $200. I've really been liking their Ironwood pants, but definitely too hot for summer.

    Archer saw chain issue

I picked up a loop of Archer chain for one of my saws recently having never used them before. Seems like good quality overall except a single tooth on the chain is so hard it literally destroys files and won’t take an edge (I’m sure it would be fine if I had a chain grinder). Maybe some issue...

    Tsumura bar rivets

Just got a new Tsumura lightweight bar. Never had one before, but looks to me like the rivets that attach the tip aren’t fully peened. Is this normal for Tsumura bars? Definitely not what I’m used to on any other brand bars I’ve used. And when I replace tips myself I always peen them pretty flush.

    Bandit 65xl?

Any difference between the 65xl and 65xp? Just an older model? I've been looking at a used 2008 65xl for sale (1200hrs, 35hp Wisconsin) posted for $9k and looks pretty clean for the age. How's that sound price wise? I may eventually want a larger chipper, but currently I can scatter brush...

Elm tree RCX and SGR removal

Did a root collar excavation on my family's 150+ year old Elm tree and found a number of smaller girdling roots and one larger (~3"), all of which I removed. Used a hose, trowel, and hands since I don't have access to an Airspade, but worked carefully around the root flare. Forgot to take a...

    Maine climber killed in accident

Sad news: https://www.wabi.tv/2023/07/06/maine-worker-killed-after-being-pulled-ground-by-portion-cut-tree/?outputType=amp Did any of the other Mainers on here know this guy or the company he worked for?

Double action snap on pinto pulley becket?

I'm wondering if it's an acceptable practice to attach a double action aluminum snap to the becket on a pinto pulley when using a lanyard in a short MRS configuration. I'm assuming it would be preferable to have a triple action carabiner on the lanyard eye for this purpose, but since I've...

    Question about HRC possible defect

Just bought a piece of Teufelberger HRC to try out. Haven’t used this cord before, but the cover appears to have a defect right in the middle of the section I got. (There’s also a very slight bulge at that spot, in case that’s not visible in the photo.) Any thoughts on whether this is an issue...

    Discount on ISC medium block

Looks like Buckingham mfg is maybe clearing out old stock of ISC medium 3/4”aluminum blocks on eBay (or just has a really low price on them right now for whatever reason) $150 plus extra 15% off for the Fourth. If anyone needs one...

    Ocean taper question

So I spliced this ring on some 8mm Ocean for an adjustable friction saver, but now I’m wondering if I tapered the cover properly or not. I used standard double braid eye splice instructions and removed strand pairs for the taper in a 5:4 pattern. It was my understanding that the cover has two...

    Ice Tail eye and eye

Followed Samson's instructions here: https://www.samsonrope.com/docs/default-source/splice-instructions/12strand_c1_eye_and_eye_tail_web.pdf?sfvrsn=1e0022aa_2 Had a heck of a time getting that second tail through the crossover for being so tight. Third (maybe fourth?) attempt I sized down to a...

    Tenex vs Tenex TEC

I'm wondering what the reasons are for using Tenex vs Tenex TEC for slings or prusiks. I saw that Wesspur makes their rigging prusiks out of the single stuff, so I had picked some up to splice my own. Having a bunch of extra, I made an ultra sling for possible use as a redirect anchor. However...
