Hello. I’ve moved and want to update my location. I can’t seem to figure out where to do that. If I touch my location in my profile, it opens maps.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Thank you.
David
Hello all,
I hope the winter is treating everyone well.
This year I moved to Ashland, OR. Some time back I inquired about recreationally climbing these beautiful trees. I did not, as the consensus seemed to be that they might be stout trees, but their bark…or the lack thereof makes them...
Hello All,
I’m a recreational climber. I just moved to Ashland, Oregon. All of my experience climbing is with Oaks, Redwoods, and Eucalyptus. On the mountain where I live, there are Madrones. Can anyone with experience tell me about climbing these beauties? Anything to be concerned about...
Hello All,
I will be moving from Northern California to Ashland, Oregon.
I'm a recreational climber and I'm wondering about a couple things:
Is there a recreational climbing community there? Anyone on this forum part of that group?
Are there good trees to be climbed in them thar hills? I...
Good morning, all.
So I am a recreational climber. When I first started, I was using a 1/2 conduit friction saver. They work terrific, but now I’m climbing with a sewn eye on each end of my rope, so the conduit won’t work for me. I could get a 3/4”, but before I do, any recommendation on a...
Hello. I’m a recreational climber with a size 1 Sequoia. I think I would be happier with a 0, as I’m quite thin.
My size 1is in near perfect condition. Do you have a 0 size in similar condition that you would like to swap with me?
Thanks,
David
Good morning, All.
On other forum posts, I inquired about a more comfortable harness. Based on the feedback, I purchased the Teufelberger treeMOTION light Harness.
I will be transferring from a Petzl Sequoia.
As I look at the Teufelberger, other than purchasing Transporters, which can...
Hello All,
Happy New Years Eve.
So, I’m in the search mode for a new harness. As everyone knows, it’s a difficult purchase because (at least in my area) there isn’t a store to try on different brands/styles. It’s strange to purchase something so pricey, and not be sure of the fit.
With that...
Hello All,
I have a Petzl Sequoia harness. I know it is considered a nicely designed harness, and is supposed to be comfortable.
I am 5’10 and 154 pounds. That makes me a thin person. I find the waist belt rides up higher than I prefer, and puts pressure on my kidneys.
Is this a design issue...
Good morning, All.
Yesterday I want out for a little climb. I had a few goals in mind: 1. I had in my possession a brand new, very “sexy” 150’ Vega Double Sewn Eye rope that I was excited to try (how geeky is that!). 2. I have been using a Notch ankle ascender, but I find the rope slips out too...
Good afternoon.
Procrastinating at work. Thinking about my rec climbing this weekend.
Met up with some friends and acquaintances to climb a Redwood in an area north of San Francisco.
Here are the thoughts:
1. This community, be it rec or pro climbers is exceptional. So far (knock on wood), no...
Hello All,
I climb with a Petzl Sequoia. It's the only saddle in which I have spent a significant amount of time.
I have plenty of climbing gear with the exception of a second saddle. I would like to acquire a second saddle so I can turn friends and colleagues onto tree climbing.
The question...
Hello All,
My normal tool for climbing both SRS and MRS is the HitchHiker XF.
If I want to traverse to another limb, I will often use the other end of my line. I will make all the necessary throwbag/grappling hook moves to get situated and secured. My tool of choice for the other end of the...
Good morning.
A couple weeks back I asked a question about transferring from rope to rope in order to climb a redwood tree. The situation was the I didn’t have a long enough rope.
Thank you for all of the great information and advice. I will be with professional instructors who I’ve climbed...
Good morning, All.
In a couple weeks I’m heading off to the real Northern California to climb an old growth Redwood. I am expecting the tree to be about 300 feet. I have ropes, but none of them are going to be long enough.
So…my question is…is it possible/proper to connect ropes together and...
Hello All,
On a prior inquiry, I asked about switching from SRS to MRS. Some of the responses talked about connecting the tail of your rope to the lead end, creating a continuous loop. This practice would allow one to have "another" rope available for MRS.
My question is whether it's bad form...
Hello All,
It's been some time since I've posted. The drought here in the west really stressed the trees, then the rains came, and stressed them all the more. The conditions (as a recreational climber) made me nervous, so I paused for a bit.
Now I'm back into it, and the curiosity is flaring...
Hello All,
Today I went for an early morning climb in my favorite oak. As I was ascending, one of a pair of hawks (I think it is a Red Shouldered Hawk) landed on a limb above me. Interestingly, it didn't flare as I continued to ascend. I'd say I got within 20 feet. Unfortunately, I just had my...
Good evening.
Tow days of climbing where I began with SRS. I'm a bit confused on how to advance once I'm in the canopy next to my TIP.
With the SRS, I'm confused as to how to advance to another limb a distance away. When I climb MRS, I simply lanyard in, then throw a new bag and or the rope to...
