Last week I was riding the ball and setting straps for our new climber. He stayed in the crotch making the cuts. I like this method as it practically doubles production. Also much easier to bomb out of the long horizontals and not walk back to the base.
Removed a big cotton wood with sprawling...
Looking to make one with about a 12' total length. First pocket will be a 6'' with the remaining at 4''. I'm also considering a longer than usual terminating tail of 20''s or so.
How much cordage should I be using? I have a substantial hank of 1/2'' hollow braid.
@Neill just had a post on replacing a cable. He used another cable.
I recall sometime ago, Cobra was all the rage. Was supposed to be better fur the tree with no penetrations and allows growth with movement.
A now retired local guy used chain link. Setup just like the Cobra stuff.
What's your...
What's your favorite saw to sling for riding the ball?
I run a MS262 C-M with a LW 20'' bar, and .325 pitch. Saw needs to go in the shop. I broke my own golden rule, and used someone else's gas last Fri. I had thought it was just from the heat and, the gas was sitting in the sun for a bit. Ran...
When's the best time? Spring or fall? I'm guessing fall.
Tree in question is a river birch, about 6' tall with a 2-2 1/2'' trunk.
My significant other planted it 3 years ago in a bad spot. It is blocking a rose of sharon.
Recently I took down an old cedar with issues. Poor tree was full of wood...
Keeping in the theme of things LOL.
150' 24 strand climber. Preferably, Yale's 11.7
!50' seems adequate in all my work.
200' stable braid in 9/16''
Adequate for almost all heavy work, without being to large for lighter work.
150' of Sampson's 1/2'' Pro Master.
A 3=strand that...
Carried over from the "Today..." thread. Someone had to do it.
I'll start off.
A ported 201tc, ported 261c, and a ported 500i.
Why? because I already have a 201tc, 261c, and a ported 80cc Dolmar.
Over the years, I've used dead eyes, round slings, and chain with hooks. Most common used around here is the dead eye slings.
There's also all the Arb site slings, which I've never used.
What flies with you and why?
Contract climbing is getting busy for me. I'm going to see a lot more crane work in the near future. Used to ride the ball fairly often 15 years ago. Back then I just used a split tail on 16 strand. I got a ZZ some years back and put it on some Yale Ivy 11.7.
Never quite got used it in the trees...
Just got mine couple days ago.
DANG it's small. Not much bigger than one of the small accessory biners. I thought it'd be a little bigger. I got one to put behind my right side D. Just behind it, my saw gets hung un a Shembiner. I wanted something that locks, preventing me from accidentally...
I'm sure there've been threads on this before but, I wondering what everyone's daily go to is in their climbing bag. I f you had to carry just one bag plus, climbing rope system and gaffs separate. I carry my MB saddle, a fig 8 (even though it rarely comes out, a wire core flip line and one 16...
Hello all. Haven't been here in awhile..... moved to a new location. Bought an old farmhouse dated back to 1850 or older. Anyhows, I have a European Plum tree that is largely infested with Venturiaceae Fungi.
What can I do to help this poor lil bugger?
@JD3000 or anyone else have some advice for me?
Looking for ideas on dedicated vehicle and or box trailer and equipment load out. What does everyone roll with on a regular basis.
Box trucks to box trailers, pick-ups and chip trucks, to utility trucks and vans. Where and how do you store your most common used stuff.
Also what leaves the...

Too those who knew Dave Rohach ...... he is no longer with us. This bad news has been shared to us on the X-ring, ring and ring sling thread. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Even if just from knowing him on the web. RIP fellow buzzer and tree man.
Always wanted to be able to detach the bridge ..... therefor making it a bit easier to put this saddle on. Wh ile I was at it, I lengthened the bridge to aid in ascent and cinch it up for spar work. I had a short length of NE Safety Blue that I used 5' of for the bridge. Putting this saddle on...
I had a job sold for $2150. Someone else jumped on the wagon. Client must have called someone else. It was a verbal quote with proof of insurance and a signed contract due on the start date. Two 70' black spruce joined at the base, to be removed and a dead 40' spruce. Also raise the canopy on...
Any of you have any strategies for selling a tree to a client? I worked with a friend one day and we removed a row of urban nuisance trees along the side walk. A repeat client, annual work on premises. Next thing I know, after fine raking, were jumping in his k-boom truck and headed for the...
This is for all with a Morbark and those who are considering ownership. Some of you may know I have recently been working on better customer service with Morbark. Some have found dealing through Nortrax to be lacking. Especially with customer service. That and Morbark needs to listen to the...
I've did a search on this here and read what little I could find. Currently there are two chippers for sale that have this issue. Both are stated to have broken lowers. One is an '08 and the other an '06. Anyone know what the repair costs are? How difficult are the repairs? I'm no stranger to...
