Correct. I should have been more clear. I was talking about a Moving Rope System where I am tied in at my highest point. I was thinking that I tie myself at a high point of a tree, come down, and work my way up to that high point.
Question on cutting a tree. When bringing a tree down, do you start removing limbs from the ground up, or from the top to the bottom?
Common sense tells me that we should start from bottom to top because if you start from top to bottom, the branches you are cutting would be hitting the bottom...
Yup. Can't say enough good things about Dave.
Even though they taught us the SRT and MRS, I think I'm gonna start with MRS. I was definitely more comfortable using that system.
Yup.
That's what I was told. You can accidentally cut the rope with the saw. I'm almost thinking I should have my saw on my leg away from the top of the rope.
So true. Do you guys have any feedback on when I can start climbing with actual tools? I plan to start with just a handsaw. My instructor told me that I will know when I'm ready but I'm curious to know what you guys think.
For perspective, it took me roughly 15 minutes to go up and down 40...
Agreed.
Personally when limb walking, I found that when I would put all my weight on my harness instead of the limb, I was able to balance much easier.
But I found that instead of going on top of the limb and being parallel to the limb was even easier. I didn't do this but had another...
Thanks man. I have all the above books except for the Timber Falling Book by Douglas Dent.
Ive been reading them like crazy but its like you said, its all about the practice and experience.
Nope. They have a rigging course coming up in the fall that I am going to attend. Right now I am just focusing on baby steps. Here are some pics that were taken of me when I was there.
Just got back from a 27 hour climbing course this past weekend and the training received was nothing short of amazing.
Also the training course opened my eyes. I was fully aware that this type of work is extremely dangerous but there's a difference between knowing something is dangerous vs...
True true. It's all subjective. But it's a badass show. If people can get past the fantasy part it really shows how humans are, human nature, politics, etc
1. Game of Thrones has surpassed every TV show out there as far as best show on TV.
3. I agree with you. This is why I am going to take it slow. But one thing is to tell me to take it slow and another is to just downright want to discourage me from getting into this industry.
I mean, I might as...
Yes I have. Ive been on a tree before. When I said that I have never climbed I meant it in the context of not having climbed enough to feel that I am proficient at it. I am plenty comfortable on a tree as long as I have the harness but have never cut a tree using a chainsaw. All I have ever done...
You either are trying to not understand or you are trolling. 16 hours worth of work doesnt mean someone has to work 16 hours in one day. It means 2x8 hour days.
Fair enough. Tree service is def the most dangerous biz. However, I wont leave the idea though lol.
Im just going to have to pay my dues and start from the bottom and then build from there.
Correct @swingdude . Cant fit a lift or bucket truck. This is a climber job. At 2500, I underbid. One climber should be able to do this in 16 hours using rigging techniques. I wouldn't chuck anything since the Jacuzzi is there along with a wood patio/roof under those branches.
