How do you go about getting clients or insurance when you start a high liability business that you don't have any experience in because you don't want to work for anyone? Don't you think this person missed out on a lot of knowledge by not working with anyone? Could he be considered a slave to...
How long were you enslaved at these businesses? I worked some shitty jobs to make some money but I didn't have any experience. Goty more experience, more responsibility, more money. Mostly was in it for the experience, which felt like equity to me when i used it to start my own business....... I...
I think it's awesome you can get that much.
I hire two different contract climbers in both 2 days per week in MA. They are very productive 10+ years climbing each. One is 575 the other is 550 day rate. I've been in business myself 7 seasons and never owned a bucket/lift.. I've climbed myself...
It can do a lot more jobs than you would think. The grapple is offset about 6 feet from the actual boom itself. Can reach over as well as under wires. Can put peices down on the other side of house drop wires and fences etc. For what it can do in a 55 foot radius I think it's cheap. It sets up...
Merlo makes a winch, but the wood cracker is where the money is. Out of 800 hours of use the, wood cracker has been on for about 790. It comes on and off pretty fast, but you really don't want to take it off...
I was of this very same opinion until a few years back. Once I got into a groove with the crane sub I didn't go back. Don't get me wrong, we still do lots of climbing/rigging etc. It's a skill/service that will never lose value.
So long as you have the right jobs to get a proper 8 hour day in...
People rarely care whether or not a crane is used. They want the lowest price. I'll use a crane when it is the cheapest option. It's quite often. The majority of companies here that do lots of removals have at least one crane. Those that don't have many options of companies and different size...
Generally a crane is only used if it makes the job cheaper for the client. Usually leaves the site in better condition than if traditional means were used. Also way easier for everyone performing the work. Cleanup is way faster. You can rent a fully counterweighted 110t crane here for 3500 us...
I think you have a good thing going. If you can get away with more that's awesome but if sounds like you're already in the top percentile for contract climber rates.
many climbers in my market the vast majority of climbing they've done is crane related. Probably due to saturation of cranes...
Congrats brother! Put 800 hours on mine in 2022. Drove it on the road a shit ton. Hills are slow going...There were rumors of some kind of memo that went out about not being able to drive them. Didn't come from Merlo. Never heard of anyone that actually had any issues with drivetrain. Didn't...
I had a few white ash logs milled up for dunnage/cribbing. The pieces you would normally throw away/burn from squaring the log make for very good shims I found.
I've been there and seen it. You are in the land of milk and honey. 5k with a Merlo, 4 man crew, 24 inch chipper, mini skid, CDL trucks etc isn't terrible day in MA. Can get to 7 or 8, but not all the time..There aren't contract climbers getting much more than 600 a day here and that is for the...
