Just pulled the trigger on a dino rxt 92 after much deliberation... a 75 foot bucket is more expensive to purchase and maintain/cost to run per hour is higher. A bucket weighs 2-3x. Probably 3x if you want a forestry unit. Bucket is insulated vs dino is not. Have 17 extra feet of working height...
Meaning people get in the way of his business for permits etc because they don't want outsiders moving in and making money that they feel should or would go to people who were born there
I have an electrician buddy who married a girl from Martha's vineyard and moved there/started his own company which does well. He was building a house and needed a bunch of tree work. He bugged me for awhile to do it, and eventually I agreed. Most of the work there occurs in the off season for...
I have a tree in mind on a client's property. Monster right next to old house. They have a photo of the house from 1850ish and tree is maybe 12 inch dbh in the photo. Glad you started this thread... they want to do something with it and I really don't want to mess it up...
We rarely get into...
The goal was to have the mini, grapple, broom, forks, all tools etc, and 12 mats available and out of the way on the truck at all times plus be as convenient as possible to utilize with only one person. Without sacrificing chip space it needed to be long. So, she's long. Can't have it all!
It can be inconvenient for narrow windy driveways. I do have other trucks to tow chipper or use mini to push chipper up driveway if it's so windy I can't back in without making a mess. It's few and far between for me. I've had the truck for 3 years and you get pretty good at backing the chipper...
If you're getting paid to do a job--no strings attached--none of your own leads--by the hour or day rate is the only way that makes sense to me. People might argue, "then you have no motivation to upsell" or "you sold a $10,000 job you should get a percentage/that guy is getting rich off of your...
Thanks. If I did it again I would start with a cab and chassis. This was modified. There are a few things that did not turn out exactly as wished, but too late to change now. Exhausted with the project at this point lol and it works. Few minor changes then sandblasting and paint. Closing the...
Just about finished with my solo rig. Had little aluminum ramps previously. Always wanted to go fully hydraulic. Was very time consuming and expensive to build, but its pretty much done. Mat rack is fully hydraulic lays flat on the platform once the mini is off. Hook up to forks and pull out 12...
From the sound of it, I don't have the energy to see it through especially since I think it is only borderline possible anyway. Camera shy it is, though I sub myself to other companies a fair bit....may have to have everyone put their phones in a box on the jobsite.... I'm kidding of course lots...
Thanks for the information. I'm going to see if I can have it made somewhat locally. Seems like the patent won't really be worth it because someone could definitely skirt right around me by making a minor change. Stay tuned!
I'll add that the "thing that I'm changing that already exists" isn't something that would be patented I dont think. It's something that many different manufacturers make
Thanks for the intel. I would like to talk to someone who can tell me if there is anything in what I'm doing that is even "patentable" in the first place. As mentioned, it's kind of just changing something that already exists, then using something else with it to do something cool. Apologies for...
Think I may have an idea worth patenting, though I'm not sure if I would be able to. It has nothing to do with climbing/rigging/life support etc. It's kind of modifying two unrelated tools to use together to perform a task that I've not seen anyone perform before. Has taken quite a bit of...
