    Favorite winter boot?

I have a pair of hoffman duralines that I wear whenever Im climbing in spikes. Oddly enough I like to wear danner vicious boots the rest of the time. They come in 4.5 and a 8 inch I believe. Good boot, have a TPU shank in them. I think I'll do a little investigating on the matterhorns.

    Favorite winter boot?

With winter coming soon I was kind of curious as to what is every one's preferred boot for the winter? I typically just wear and insulated rubber boot, and a good pair of wool socks with my Hoffmans if I have to climb!

    Used chipper shopping

save your money until it does fail I have an altec chipper. They are very supportive and get parts to me quick, usually two days or less... and a lot of times they tell me what I can use as a replacement that would be readily available at an automotive store or implement.

    Used chipper shopping

If you're hauling it all right now in a trailer a chipper is going to save you so much time just in hauling. Getting started as a company is a little frustrating but you'll get there. Get a couple reliable guys and some decent used equipment and things will start rolling. First big purchase I...

    Used chipper shopping

If you're a newer company I'd venture to say that even a 12" chipper would be a damn good starting point. I have a 12" disc chipper that has served us very well and still is. Maintenance is the key to chipper life, keep the knives sharp, keep the belts adjusted, change filters, change oil, and...

Chipper knives and bolts. Where to buy?

McMast Carr online is go to for hardware. You can call ALTEC Inc and talk to their parts guys. They're very helpful and often tell you what you can use as a non-Altec brand replacement. ALTEC (877)435-9258. Parts come to Iowa very quickly. I always get mine next day or two days. P.S. Have your...

    owner operator lifestyle

I like to pick one afternoon a week for doing estimates. If it doesn’t work for client I explain that I can look at the property and we can discuss options afterwards. I don’t work weekends and I don’t work past 4:30. Allows me plenty of time for my family and recreation.

    Altec Lower Hydraulic Fittings

I would guess to mount a winch or some really heavy trailers have lines you can hook up for a jack

    Samson Voyager color?

I’m gonna go ahead and toss in another vote for vortex here. I like it because I have big thick hands and it reduces fatigue quite a bit. 11.7mm lines never really gave me much trouble but I grab my vortex every time now.

    Used Sherrill Edge II saddle

Long story short... bought this saddle for a guy I was going to train but he made poor life choices. Used Sherrill Tree Edge II saddle- size Medium (32-36)", I just bought this a few months ago. It has one climb on it while I've owned it. Replaced the bridge with sterling workpro 11mm. Comes...

A good day to stay alive

if I don’t trust being close to the cut like that I typically go down and grab a larger saw. Sounds dumb but extra reach is extra reach at the end of the day!

What is your specialty / niche?

Actually showing up and bidding the job in person. Evaluate the whole job so there aren't surprises. Doing work at a price that makes me money but isn't trying to take advantage of the property owner!

I got a great job offer and I'm second guessing myself.

Id tell your current employer how you feel and where you stand on things. There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to improve and expand yourself. Try not to burn the bridge with the old boy... at the same time possibly do some research on the new company and boss. Not everything is what it...

In the market for a good all arounder tag line

Ill echo Muggs. The rope that we use most all around is Yale XTC 12. Its white with a yellow tracer. We primarily always run it through a pulley or block but I frequently flip it around crotches as well for redirects. Stays pliable, ties well. I have had a little bit of hockling but we just...

Best rigging block for the job

I have three blocks that are my go to's! Im in Iowa though and can say we don't have HUGE trees compared to other places. We have some large ones but the first two recommended blocks get majority of the workload handled. I have some rings but I honestly just don't use them. Being able to attach...

Sales, bidding, estimating: what's your style?

I walk every bid personally. Pictures never tell the whole story. I request email and cell phone and provide a text message and fully written quote within 24 hours of being on site. I like to have the small window to play it through in my head and not blurt a number while on site or being...
