Thanks for all the replies. I've used it now 9-10 times in light-to-moderate rain with no issues. I just make sure and blow it off with compressed air overnight so water doesn't sit in all the naughty bits for too long. Really liking that saw, but I might have to look into getting the 1/4"...
Article states she only began rope climbing 2 years ago, which makes it all the more impressive. That said, after footlocking 80' up my Fir for the last 4 days, (to practice), I couldn't imagine another 280' after that. I'd have to stop for the night around 180' and rent a motel.
I've gone through most Amazon latex & nitrile gloves and these are the very best. Tough as nails, amazing grip, and great fitment. I wear them a bit on the snug side so I can keep maximum dexterity.

Thanks for the feedback. I have read that both Stihl and Husky claim to be an IPX4 rated, and I even saw a website claiming Echo to be as well, but I've read the manual several times and can't find such claims made by Echo.
I tried to search before asking, but maybe I couldn't find it asked before because the question is that stupid. This saw is new to me, and although I don't intend on using it in the rain, I'm curious how much rain is too much? I'm currently trimming some large Firs on my property and I'd...
Sounds like a great idea. We do about 300 gutter cleanings a year, and this works well on the end of an extension pole. The extra bit on top is for inverting the tool to pull debris under any gutter spikes or brackets. 3 ladder sets max per 50' run. Very useful, but gets fragile below...
pool noodles
The quick answer is, if you're able to measure out exactly where on your rope would cross the peak, you could thread your rope through a few pool noodles or foam pipe insulation and maybe stopper knots on the low sides of each to keep them from shifting. If you don't have either...
You're most welcome Richard. Thank you for the SAKA. Been running a homebrew knee ascender for longer than I care to admit, but today I get to take your SAKA for a spin. Did a trial run last night on my Oak, but it was dark. I'm excited to get it dialed in.
Man I wish I were younger. I'd...
2 other very effective tools for steep roofs:
Goat Steep Assist-allows one to set up a pole with attached hook on the opposing side of peak, has handholds/footholds, breaks down into 4' sections. Very effective, but expensive if only using occasionally.
Cougar Paws-boot designed for roofers...
Pitch HoppersYou might look into getting a few Pitch Hoppers, which would allow you to safely navigate even 12/12 roofs. I do a few hundred Christmas light installs every year, (90% of which are done from the roof), and it couldn't be done as efficiently or safely without Pitch Hoppers.
Thanks for the pics, but even at that low price, gonna have to pass. Shortly after making my last post we had our water service line burst somewhere between the house & street, so any extra playing money is now lost to the plumbing Gods.
I know I don't post much and people are leery of doing business with noobs, so I'd pay in advance or whatever necessary, but I'm looking for arb boots and can't justify new right now. If possible, could you post pics?
That's an intriguing idea, as I've never thought of using my GOAT in my trees. I typically just keep my mouth shut and try to absorb as much knowledge as you all share, but this happens to be something I know quite a bit about. I'm primarily a Painting Contractor who does Xmas light installs...
Compressed air in a can sprayed upside down at the affected areas will flash-freeze them. Spraying it upside down creates an endothermic reaction. A rubber mallet makes quick work of breaking up the chunks, and then clean the rope like you normally would. Do keep in mind that you'd be...
That's awesome. We do quite a few trees like that for commercial clients, and a couple 30-50' trees for residential folks. 200-300 strands, $2,500-$3000 on materials, 22-26 man hours per. Very time intensive, but a real eye-grabber for sure. Great thing about Christmas Lights is everyone...
