I enjoy climbing as a hobby since it’s what got me climbing. In general any climb that challenges me is fun. I got to go with @Mss3y Mike a few weeks ago. We found a forest oak and he climbed around. I just hung out in the canopy and watched him. I did a night climb tonight in the dark start to...
Here’s a big dead ash with my MS460-25” bar laying across the narrow part of the stump. I think it’s the biggest ash for me and thankfully clear drop zone.
Exactly. I don’t think some folks understand how “exhausting” and demanding it can be. When competing at each event several minutes but, tech, judging, admin, clearing trees, setup etc amounts to 8-12 hours a day. Then you add in travel, hotel and other expenses it takes commitment. Craig
It was a fun event. I helped with work climb, masters and generally whatever else they needed. Got to be work climb judge. I was somewhat tired after 3 days but, I’ll volunteer again!
I thought about that and wondering if the resharpened blade angle is off. I have a new set of blades and anvil coming. I’m trying to exhaust my options. I’m going to reset the gap as similar small drum chippers state .9 to 1mm. If that doesn’t work I’ve read some folks set them up to 1/8 or...
Just pushing with fingers. I’ve been wrenching and hot rodding for 50 years. I’m pretty sure belts are not slipping. I’ll pull the cover, mark, check or put a timing light on it if needed.
Yeah that’s a pretty narrow gap
I checked it when I put the blades back on. It’s probably less than 1/2 inch deflection. I didn’t see any glazing like it was slipping. Thanks for trying to help!
I got it back together with sharp blades with bevel facing outwards. I’ve seen them this way in several photos. I have the gap set at 1.5mm. It chips 2 inches under but struggles with anything larger. It won’t pull it in and the bigger stuff bounces on the blade/drum. I’m going to play with the...
Yeah I saw Regs and that’s where I got the idea. Are your blades facing with the bevel to drum or to anvil like this photo? It’s been suggested that this is incorrect and that NT support doesn’t know.
Yeah I know it’s really not a real chipper. Drum style. I figured since y’all understand the operation that maybe you can figure this out. I have called Northern Tool store and corporate support with the Powerhorse Or PrincessAuto Powerfist 5” chipper. They don’t have and I can’t find a repair...
This is more what I was getting at. When I tried the KMIII the distel I usually use, was slippery. 8mm cord grabbed better than my 10mm. I’ve mostly figured out how to keep my RW from seizing when weighted on my 24 strand Samson ropes. I’ve seen a few posts about static ropes are for mechanicals...
HO says needs a few dead limbs removed. Which it does but, looks like top down dying. I’m not great with bugs and crud. This looks like it has small galls, some very small beetles, a few tiny caterpillars and probably a fungus. It’s got a lot going on and I’m not sure if treatment is possible...
I have been notified and received my ISA Certified Tree Climber credentials. Only took 8 months to get through the process. So I can say officially that IDK what I’m doing! Thanks for the help here on treebuzz. Craig
I’m sensing from the initial responses that a static and/or 32 strand rope works just fine with a hitch cord. I have several different ones that I’ve tried from 8-10mm. The 8 grips all my ropes reliably. The 10 needs another wrap most of the time. I guess I’m going to start searching for static...
I want to buy a static rope but have questions. I’m still running RW and hitch cords. I currently use Samson hyper-climb and tango/silver ivy. I’m also playing with Pelican Arborist Viper. I haven’t tried or purchased a mechanical yet. I briefly tried a hitch on a KM3 and it was slippery. Is...
I attended last year as spectator. I was on standby as a competitor but, told them to give my slot away. I’m going to volunteer but, I might be only to work one day. I’ll sign up as soon as my availability is confirmed. Is there camping on site? Craig
