If I have gear get pitchy I just clean it with alcohol if it is hardware. If it is a rope or a lanyard I take it out of rotation temporarily and let the pitch dry out. Then I put it around a rough branch or trunk and rub the pitchy spot back and forth until it flakes off.
Thankfully we do...
I used to be the first in line to try every new piece of gear out on the market. Now I wait until everyone else tries it, I talk to my friends who get to try early versions of it, and once again wait. It doesn’t take long for the patience to pay off and one pops up on Treebay. Inevitably I...
One thing I think would be cool to try is a crane tie in point that has a built on rope wrench or another type of friction device on it. Then you could bomb down with a device and it would add a little friction up top rather than your device having to take all the heat.
Lockjack from ART is the OG mechanical. Midline attachable. Same design with improvements over the decades. Every component is replaceable on the device but it does start adding up over time especially compared with the seemingly bombproof zigzags that last so long. Keeping ropes clean...
Chilling indeed. This whole thing to me is about the chilling of free speech and making an entire populace try to be more invisible than they already are. This guy was just picked at random but the signals this administration is sending are clear. Keep out of sight, don’t do anything...
I get where you are coming from 100%. I went from being a contract climber to running a tree service in my local area. As a contract climber I made my schedule as I wanted it with time off, vacations, self care days, and it took a physical toll but stress wise it was smooth sailing. Now, with...
I’m all for importation of talent from elsewhere. The guest worker program is one thing that needs to be easier for all industries to use and there needs to be more spots open. If every illegal worker in this country disappeared our country would grind to a halt and inflation would really go...
We’ve been having issues with certain employees spending too much time looking at their phones during the day. We are thinking of implementing a policy of phones in the truck unless they are a crew lead. I don’t like to have to micro manage but it has become an issue.
Curious what other...
Hope you enjoy the inevitable back order email that comes AFTER your purchase. You are thinking you will see something in days and alas it was a trick to get your money for something they knew they didn’t have in stock and might not have for weeks! Enjoy!
Which manufacturers in the US make good chainsaw protection worth wearing? Good helmets worth wearing? Harnesses? Pretty much all the best stuff in a lot of areas in our industry is coming from overseas. It is completely ignorant to think that US manufacturing can magically pop up...
All the good gear comes from overseas. These tariffs are going to raise prices eventually. Hopefully the head Cheeto pulls his head out of his ass sooner than later and the economic free fall doesn’t continue another week.
Treestuff sucks and has since Luke sold. Wesspur and Arbsession are...
I’ve had the opposite experience. Lots of chip clogs with the drum chipper unless the anvil is adjusted properly and blades are kept sharp. Also, if I turn my chute to the side on the drum chipper it almost always clogs even with fresh knives and proper anvil adjustment.
The winch can be...
If I hadn’t just bought a disc chipper I would’ve bought that in a heartbeat. I like the ease of changing blades on the drum chippers. Also, I think it is a feature that it DOESN’T have a winch. Feeding with the Avant all day is a pain with the winch in the way. If I buy another chipper it...
Get a 16’ 3/4 dead eye sling and girth hitch it to the portawrap.

If you really insist on just tying a rope on there to be the sling just use a bowline with Yosemite finish.
We live in a somewhat rural area and we have a huge list of people who want chips for using in their yards. We often have clients keep multiple loads of chips. We’ve got one client who always keeps his chips and we dump around 10 loads a year at his place. Demand for chips has been so high...
Personally, I think a wire fid is way easier for most spices than a tubular fid. Pulling rope fibers is easier. Just use a tape measure for all the measurements.
