    Another method I use on trees that have been pruned like this is to take out the largest branches sprouting from the old cuts and then shorten the smaller ones with a pole clip. You end up with a significantly smaller tree but it still has a canopy.

    Seth- From what I’ve seen, if trees are healthy they aren’t negatively affected by the hardware even if placed in a vertical orientation. It is worth going to a place where old TABS are in trees and seeing how the trees just swallow that hardware over time.
