    Leaving on the branches

Even dead or dieing trees particularly recently dead trees (conifers) have a great deal of stress from storms and high winds, a climbers weight in comparison I would think is no where close. But as you limb your changing a lot of the dynamics, especially as the weight division is changed. Once...

    Leaving on the branches

I agree they seem to cancel one another out. But on a tall dead conifer ( with no obvious defects) that doesn't have the elasticity of a green tree. After removing 3/4 of the branches, the tree is going to be experiencing stress in different places and levels. You can feel it swaying oddly just...

Harassment?!? - what would you do?

Best thing always is communication. Next time you spot him around flag him down and politely ask if you can help him with something. See what he says and how he acts. You can always kick his ass later if that don't work.

    Leaving on the branches

I know leaving some branches on a spar will have a damping effect on it. I also know on some conifers the branches can have as much weight as the piece their on. My question is where does the benefit of a damping effect out weights the potential of stress related failure especially in a dead...

    Cryptoporus volvatus in pondorosa pines

Grosmannia clavigera is the fungus that lives in a symbiotic relationship with some species of beetle. Often doing more damage then the borer.

    Cryptoporus volvatus in pondorosa pines

Im not sure the fungus the beetles carry on their head and causes the blue stain and prevents the uptake of water is the same one. The patch fungus does seem to be at lest semi dependent on the beetles exit holes to infect the tree. White mycelluim(sp?) Can often be seen beneath loose bark.

    Cryptoporus volvatus in pondorosa pines

Though I'd share some information I found in case anyone is curious like me. Anyone working bark beetle tree's in Calif. will of more then likely come across these little white conks in dead or burnt pondorosa pines. The pouch conk appears soon after the bark beetles abandon the tree. The spores...

So I was sent to chop this tree down today...

I got my ass chewed out for getting saw chips in a water way on Murray creek by Cal-Fire. So be sure not to get any in the water. They'll cite you. I'm thinking shop vac?
