First day on the job and we almost filled it up. Would have had to make two trips with the old truck, so it’s already saving time which equals making money
Got my usdot number, and the flood of calls for compliance. I don’t think I need to do a lot more since I’m staying in state. Fire extinguisher, triangles and first aid. Stopped in with my sticker guy and hopefully the truck will be all official by next week.
I went and looked at the F350 crew cab with a 9'4" Eby aluminum landscape body yesterday. Gave me more than I expected for my trade so we closed the deal. Its a 5000# payload increase from the previous truck, will hold twice the amount of chips and chip containment will be better. I really liked...
That’s how we used to do it. It works for sure, but it can be time consuming if you need to take a second bite, or a third. With a limited ground crew the less steps involved is a plus. The GRCG goes from lifting to lowering seamlessly. But it is costly no doubt.
Always good points. The sides on the Eby body are two pieces on each side and each weighs 45# and they have handles on them. I think this set up would be pretty quick to use and would come in handy. I do understand that making something with removable sides is going to sacrifice structural...
Time to upgrade my current truck. Using a 2500 double cab with a dump insert. Have the rear seat removed for gear storage and a dump insert which holds about 4-4.5 yards of chips. We have a problem with chip containment as we are always trying to get in more than it can hold and spend way too...
I started with a half ton and a dump trailer, part time gig. Upgraded to a chevy 2500 doublecab, and a chipper, then added a dump insert. My truck is gas and holds about 4-4.5 yards of chips. While it handles the weight well, It is always overloaded. A SRW 3500 only adds 2000# of payload, you...
Today I finally got to use the GRCS. Took down 3 woods trees, tall but not very large diameter. One was twisted off at the base and leaning in a large oak, one was standing dead and the last one, which was the biggest one, was leaning over a fence and the inground pool. We also removed a large...
Yep has the winch handle and the bar to tension the attachment strap, and the mystery third handle... Came from Bartlett, you'd think they'd have some idea.
I bit the bullet and bought a GRCS, I guess you can never have too many options at your disposal. It came with the handle Pictured. I watched the videos and didn’t see any application of the handle. Anyone know what it’s used for?
Thanks guys. I did talk with the county extension and he didn't seem too concerned. He said just keep the chips on a separate pile and don't use them for anything, and ideally cover them with dirt.
just looked at a job to remove 11 small ornamental trees that are all infected with this stuff. They said they are some sort of plum. The leaves are all reddish now and all have small holes in them.
I'm mostly wondering as far as running this stuff through my chipper and then dumping it in my...
My plan with the mini is to put a redirect at the base of the tree, this will put the rigging forces vertical on the stem, rather than just pulling from the rigging point. I was going to anchor a porty to the mini, take a bunch of wraps and lock it off. Back up the mini to pull the tree vertical...
So I have a job coming up where a good size cherry tree twisted at the trunk and blew over into an adjacent oak. It is caught buy one of the large oaks limbs and extends a good 30' above the limb. Its a fairly tall lanky woods tree, not a lot of branches. It is leaning over a garage. There is...
Not sure of the exact number, but I can say this, more often than not, its not enough. But I sometimes load logs over the side with the mini so a full on chip box is out for me.
I ended up with 5/8" plywood and cut the sheets in half, so they are 4' square. I used them as turning stations and connected the dots. As wet as its been I was very impressed with how this all went down today. The mini will spin easily on the half sheet. When I would go into a pick on the log I...
This thing showed up a week ago and has already been on three jobs and going out again tomorrow if the rain holds off. This thing is a game changer, so glad I went this way instead of a grapple trailer. Work just got a whole lot easier.
These are the tops of one of the two oaks we removed...
Yeah I did the 180 test when I demo'd the unit in my yard. I knew right away it would require some precautionary effort. Its good to know 3/8" plywood will work.
I think the forks would be handy. I use them on my tractor and agree the forks and grapple both have strongpoints.
I ended up getting some 5/8” plywood and cut them in half, so I have 4’x4’ sheets . My wife is my groundie and I wanted her to be able to carry and move them. I only made 4 for...
