Answer is I don't know. I've lived with it for about 25 years. I'm guessing it was planted in the 1940s, when the house itself was built.
Nice thing is that there has been no competition for light and space so the crown outline is just what a quercus palustris wants to be.
Perhaps I can get an opinion about the growth habit of my favorite pin oak.
It's a wonderful and healthy tree, but observe a) multiple leaders -probably formed 30 years ago, and b) the upper branches are adorned with many vertical shoots.
Regarding the shoots - do these need to be thinned or...
Just thinking. Would a Screamer be good to incorporate into a basal anchor system?
Seems like the only shocky fall scenario would be an SRT TIP (on a non-isolated crotch) or redirect failure. Slipping on a limb walk would not be so shock, but you might slam into the stem, probably not a big...
You are certainly right for noticing. Along with computing, materials technology will be key to the next generation.
If you look at the pace of change due to technology, it's accelerating and the rate of acceleration is itself accelerating.
Ray Kurzweil has applied the term "singularity" to...
Hi Mark,
I am in Monmouth County, which I understand is your territory. (I've also checked up the Aspen pages - very impressive - I now know who to call for real work).
Anyhow, you might tip me off as to learning and social climbing opportunities within, say, a 100 mile radius. Thanks.
Kevin\'s Write-Up
I just re-read Kevin Bingham's article on mechanical prusiks. It's in Issue 4 of Arb Climber magazine. (subscription required - though nominal fee)
While it doesn't address any of the specifics in this thread, it does serve as a useful overview of the topic.
Good point on the heat generation. Since the system as a whole has to control your weight descending at a given speed in all configurations, the heat should be the same. But then, why do Rope Wrench, HitchHiker move heat away from the friction hitch, yet traditional DdRT systems do not suffer...
Wonderful to see innovation/invention as it develops!
Of course the ultimate game is to satisfy the SRT all-mechanical multicender need.
A question: Petzl zig-zag is similar concept. But ZZ is offered only for DdRT.
When comparing DdRT to SRT, the friction element sees half the weight load...
As a novice, I have found Daniel Holliday's short instructional videos to be clear and pithy. He posts as the "Climbing Arborist" and works up in Vancouver.
Today he posted a praise-filled introduction to SRWP - He's right up on the terminology adoption I've seen discussed here, so perhaps...
Forgive me if I'm slow on the uptake.
The knee ascender takes the place of :
a) the pantin
or
b) the hand ascender?
Are you recommending Haas or similar?
Note: I made this by copying an idea on this board. I apologize to the originator, I have lost the original posting you made.
It won't lay flat but it's 13 cm long and the holes are 11 cm on center. It's 25 mm width at the ends and about 8 mm at the center where the snap goes. The holes are...
