I have to hand it to you guys that can get a real profit out of what you do for people. The *smallest* numbers I've seen posted in this thread are about 25% better than our average best around here. We are still 99% residential work though. We may improve if I can get my buddy to crack the...
Okay, that's what I had to hear. Someone was talking to me about them and was suggesting that a mechanical method like additional springs would be more reliable than the air/rubber. I was 50/50 about that info since I've seen the air bags under the biggest dump trucks that go into the city...
or both? My dump truck has shot leaf springs, and the box it hitting the tires now. I'm wondering if re-arching the leaf springs would be all I need to eliminate the sway and raise the box a few inches. I know bags will get it up there, and do something about the sway, and I know air bags...
That simple. Okay, so is this an amateur saw mechanic fix, or a pro one?
And that spring/s is supposed to engage when there is inertia on the sprocket, right? It's located right where the chain brake locks on, right?
Thanks, Jomoco.
I just bought two sets of full-time over leaf spring assists form auto zone, and they aren't going to fit. My truck already has one huge, factory leaf that covers the top of the leaf pack already. I'm better of not messing with that.
This is what the assists look like. I found mine at...
Are air bags solid enough that truck won't act weird when dumping?
My leaf springs are shot, and I'd rather have new ones put on or have the old ones re-arched. These air bags install in two hours though, and then I can keep making money.
I pull the chord, and the chain moves. It does not idle without the chain moving, and it is difficult for it to continue to idle. It seems to work alright other than that.
Is it a clutch problem?
Jeff, that's a good program! Thanks. Respect for the gear is a must.
And Small Potatoes (Swing), running small ops definitely has it's golden sides to it. I ran a small co. for 5 years at first, and recently I teamed up with a guy who has contracted for 25 years. He sells the jobs, and I...
I have a very finite collection of tree work music videos, and I'm always looking for more. I think I need to go get a GoPro, and produce my own.
Here's a great one:

Ya, and there that word is; BETS. I hate betting all of my money on situations like that. If there's nothing underneath, sure making it swing 90 degrees is alright.
Based on the results of my question, I don't think anybody else would BET on what the guy is doing in the video. Roping it is...
I know lots of people that swear by hand filing. That's alright. I bring out the little dremel like device that can plug into a cigarette lighter or connect directly to the truck battery in case I run out of chains in the field. I have a dremel at home.
In case you don't know these devices...
I go through a lot of chains, and I don't even have time to take everyone's chains to the shop to be sharpened let alone do we want to pay $13 a piece. The bench sharpener pays for itself. What's your brand that you like? I'd like to get the Silvey. Hahaha, for sure ;)...
No way. There is no such thing as frost here except in the nearby mountains.
I did water the tree, but I believe the tree was being watered. I did fertilize it, and after both of these measures, it did make perfect, green leaves. The previous ones were not forming complete "star" like...
