I could keep the quality up with another crew. I have two really good guys right now that would be the foremans on the two crews. Yes, we offer way more than just a job with a paycheck. Retirement, vacation, sick time, gear stipend, year end bonus, company vehicles to senior members...etc. This...
Good points. I guess the main reason for wanting to grow is to continually be able to service the customers that call us. I look at a lot of really good jobs and its hard to say no...when you know that someone else will not service these clients needs. But finding quality people is always a...
This year has been very crazy for us work wise.....stared off slow for about a month. Slow meaning we only had about a 2 week back log. Then it kicked up like 200%. This is my current crew and equipment size!
5 employees: 1 office assistant. Two of the 5 employees are certified arborist's
30...
I like to think a tree is worth so much to remove it. Doesn't matter what you have for equipment.....its a 2K dollar tree. The crane guys have higher costs.....but can do three or 4 of those 2K dollar trees a day. Thats how they make the money to cover their higher costs. It all depends on how...
This too is one of my biggest issues with TreeStuff. Nothing is ever in stock....why is this? Nick has said its because they are shipping things out super fast..really? Like it never was an issue before. Does the new ownership not want to have a large inventory?
I am still waiting for stump...
I know Morbark has had some issues with cheap steel....but I really like them. My situation is slightly different in that I have a great working relationship with a top notch diesel shop. They get the parts from morbark and fix whatever I need. One lower bearing went a few months ago on the feed...
YUP! Something is up and its not the same place it used to be. I and the same issue with some chainsaw pants. I never received them in the order. Called and no one knew anything about it. Said they were shipped. I had to eat that. 300 is a lot of money to me.
3 years ago I ordered a new helmet...
My crew works as a super high pace and lunch is a must. We start at 6:45 and usually have a chainsaw running 30 to 35 mins later. Normally all the major tasks are completed by lunch time. So after lunch is small stuff and a super cleanup.
Everyone is different..... but I like lunch time to...

You use the hourly rate to help you come up with a number to give the client. You don't charge the client by the hour. Your hourly rate is what you need to know to develop the estimate for them. If I look at a job and I estimate it to take 6 hours at 500 an hour....I don't tell the client it...
Not a Kboom.....but a step up for us. Brand new national 1300a on a peterbuilt. Been a TON of fun to swing pieces around with this. Small foot print, 110 feet of live boom. 1500lb counterweight makes a HUGE difference.
Bought it...letteted it up....and then got a micro burst in our working...
Sorry, I was being sarcastic. Your right, how will you learn if others before you do not share their experience. That's the foundation of TreeBuzz!. So here goes...i price a lot if tree jobs.
1) you have to know what it costs to run your business. Fuel, insurance, payroll, taxes, equipment...
The consumer...or customer has the freedom to choose whatever company they want. In @flyingsquirrel25 example the homeowner paid 15k to have a tree removed because he wasn't patient enough to WAIT!. I see it happen all the time. They want it done and done NOW. "Get that tree off my house" They...
You have to charge more for storm work than your regular work. Double your rates for storm work. If your pulling in 3k a day with your crew doing regukar scheduled work then you need to maje atkeast 6k for storm work.
The work is stressful, dangerous, long hours, increased costs, and a lot of...
I could also write a book on this. But one thing I have noticed in successful business where family is concerned is to have their support....and involvement. If your all in it together then your never away from your family and you all reap the rewards. I have more to add later as well.
