I would be interested in knowing what the going rate for cabling is too. I remember discussions on treebuzz in 2009-2010 where it was said around $300 for the initial cable and $100-$200 for any additional cables. But that was a long time ago, so what would the rates be now? $500-$600 for the...
Looking for recommendations for wrap around velcro straps I could put on these spurs that would be more comfortable and not stupid expensive? I’m about 99% pruning/phc/planting so I rarely wear them, but when I do they are definitely not comfortable.
This area with the ash understory is pretty clean of invasives naturally. But they built a bike trail close by so I’ve been monitoring what moves in after the disturbance. So far its mostly Allegheny blackberry filling in along the bike trail.
This park that I am doing the invasive species removal in, it’s an Oak, Maple, Beech, Hickory Forest, but there’s a large section of it where the understory is 2-4’ Ash. I wonder what’s gonna happen.
I bought the brush cutter attachment for my echo battery dpas2600 powerhead and it works great for small pear, honeysuckle, barberry, multiflora rose and grasses. I dig up and uproot everything I can, but if it’s too big for that I zap it with this and stump treat. Basically just a circular saw...
I’m planning to be there Saturday to watch. Alum Creek Campground would probably be about 25-30 minutes away from the Ohio State arboretum I’m guessing. There might be someplace closer to camp in a smaller park in Columbus. Maybe ask if they will allow camping at the Arboretum?
Some stuff has already trickled in this morning. I think I’m usually about 5 weeks backlogged this time of year and I’m probably 2 maybe 3 weeks right now. People seem to need a little extra persuasion this season which I’m not good at. Hopefully it’s just a slow start and things shape up for...
Banner Sales posted this story in a recent email newsletter. I’ve always thought this is one major advantage to using kioritz style soil injectors and trunk injection equipment as opposed to driving around with hundreds of gallons of pesticide or fertilizer.

Slower than normal for this time of year. Almost caught up on my spring PHC, and by this time a lot more pruning and planting has usually trickled in. I’m starting to worry people aren’t spending money on trees right now and other companies might be bidding lower than normal?
I’ve got some...
Just a follow up on this post. Some of the splits totally closed over and the worst ones hopefully will be closed by the end of this growing season.
I’m definitely convinced it was the Arctic blast we had that winter that cracked my kitchen window.
Nice! Thanks for sharing. I’ll save this to refer to as needed. Covers a wide range of topics.
Here’s a link to a document I’ve used over the years when working with developers and builders. There might be a better resource out there. I was given a hard copy of this when I went to a couple...
Well said! I wonder what specifications for what contractors were eligible to bid on the Columbus planting project were in the grant requirements….. I’ve seen documentaries about other big city tree planting initiatives where millions of dollars end up being wasted. So sad.
I’m proud of the...
Let’s just start with talking about root flares at every green industry (including lawn care) educational conference for the next 10 years. Once we get that down, we can move onto more complex subjects.
Has anyone else ever noticed how we seem to live in a time when documenting a project becomes more important than the project itself?
For example, Tree City USA. This is an accreditation program that certifies municipalities as a “tree city” if they meet certain requirements. I have to assume...
