I find, (which I believe I read on this forum and unfortunately can't give appropriate credit too) that by fully extending your hitch cord and rubbing it on some bark will help clean off the sap, as well as, rough it up a little and may help it grab better
That is one fugly looking splice...However, if you are an Akimbo user I would recommend the fly family of ropes. It has a bit more bounce then I would like but runs through the device like a dream. Sewn termination would be much better if possible....or ditch it and pick up a hank of hyperclimb...
I must admit that I was a Brady "hater" for many years. However, watching him continuously do what he does year in and year out I can't help but repect him. I have now changed my tune and am resigned and happy to be able to witness the greatest of all time
I have have had the wizard line for a while now and it has been nothing short of fantastic. Not bouncy, knots well, SRS on an akimbo and wrench very well, MRS with hitch climber is awesome...easy class 1 double braid splice. For the price I am not sure it can be beat. Polyester cover over a...
10 mm Sirius Reepschnur is fairly lightweight, 100% polyester so it holds up well and is a fairly easy class 1 double braid splice....and it is fairly cheap. I have had my hook for a year or so and the line has held up to my hand and foot ascender very well
To the point of using an access line....just because the line is there doesn't mean you have to climb it. Think large diameter throw line and now you have your inspected rope to ascend. Maybe as good practice and when possible, access lines should be basal anchors through large enough unions...
Valid point, but the officer always has in his ability the right to deviate from standard operating procedures. Probably more likely if you had a relationship with the I.C or rescue crew and a mutual respect for skills, attitude, professionalism was present. Also a second system could be cinched...
Another very valid point that could save lives is to always remember the importance of an access line. This is something that may be the simplest solution to saving valuable time in the event of an emergency regardless of who performs the rescue.
That is a great question Tom...unfortunately I am unsure how you would qualify an outsider. Thankfully it is above my pay grade. I would imagine there would have to be a vetting process that would include proof of qualifications and an interview of some kind. There would also most likely be a...
Excellent article Steve. This is a scenerio that our rescue techs faced a few weeks ago. It was not my platoon, however we did a post incident report regarding it and a great discussion was had about the lack of our rescue experience for tree climbers... The rescue truck was called to a working...
Definitely in need of a new piston and ring...I did see a meteor piston on clearance at Baileys a few months back for $26....not sure if it is still available for that price but definitely worth a look
I have the same black and red rescue pulley you are speaking of. I have used it a handful of times, mostly as a floating re-direct for Maasdam pulling. Nice pulley and quality that is expected from a Petzl product. However, most days it stays at the bottom of the bag
Has the cylinder been inspected? Or just take a peek at the piston through the exhaust? The cylinder may still be salvage-able with little to no damage and if not an OEM piston and cylinder can be had for a decent price given the worth of the saws these days. I have read many positive reviews...
I am no pro but....Home made wire fid out of an old wire coat hanger and a 50% core reduction on the last 5 inches or so of the core before re-inserting it into the cover for the final bury has always done the trick for me
I purchased a Koala from Maple Leaf Ropes yesterday...I am a little bit nervous because there doesn't seem to be much written info on it, so here's to hoping...I currently have a 2018 Sequoia SRT (older style) that I do like a lot, but for the price I just had to pull the trigger to try the...
Check out Maple Leaf Ropes...if they don't have what you want ask to speak with Jason. He may be able to help you out.

I believe Cousin is the company that manufactures the flow rope and I also think they own the eye splice that originally was on there Atrax line which was the first to my knowledge to fit in the zig zag
